UN Women International Consultant (2026 ) – Climate, Peace and Security and Data Communication: Home-Based Opportunity

UN Women is inviting applications for an International Consultant – Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) and Data Communication, offering professionals an opportunity to contribute to work connecting gender equality, peace and security, climate issues, data, and strategic communication. The consultancy is home-based, with official travel potentially required, and applications must be submitted by 21 August 2026.
About UN Women
UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Its work includes supporting women’s participation in governance, peacebuilding, humanitarian action, disaster risk reduction, economic empowerment, and efforts to end violence against women.
The opportunity is situated within the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, specifically the Governance, Peace and Security Unit. The unit supports the Women, Peace and Security agenda while addressing emerging priorities such as Gender, Climate, Peace and Security and Women, Peace and Cybersecurity.
What the Consultant Will Do
The selected consultant will combine analytical, data, communication, and programme-support skills to help transform evidence into useful knowledge products and policy communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing local data sources across the Asia-Pacific region.
- Synthesizing findings into structured evidence for interactive communications and policy products.
- Supporting the assessment of communication needs related to Climate, Peace and Security and Women, Peace and Security.
- Helping develop web-based interactive products and data visualization formats.
- Applying data intelligence frameworks and mapping tools.
- Supporting virtual design workshops involving women peacebuilders, civil society organizations, and UN Women stakeholders.
- Preparing briefing notes, background papers, data summaries, story cards, and other communication materials.
- Supporting responsible data practices, including anonymization and do-no-harm protocols.
- Monitoring the use and uptake of CPS-WPS knowledge products.
This makes the position particularly relevant to professionals who can work at the intersection of data, digital communication, gender, climate, peacebuilding, and policy advocacy.
Home-Based Consultancy
One of the notable features of the opportunity is its home-based working arrangement. However, candidates should be aware that official travel may be required and will be managed according to UN Women’s travel policy.
The consultancy is also structured as a retainer contract. UN Women may contact the consultant for specific assignments, which the consultant can accept or decline. A daily rate will be agreed under the contract, but the organization does not guarantee a specific number of working days.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants are expected to have strong analytical, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. The required educational background includes a Master’s degree in social sciences, conflict studies, gender studies, international affairs, or another relevant field connected to governance, climate, peace and security.
A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced degree.
Candidates also need at least two years of progressively responsible experience at national or international level in areas such as Women, Peace and Security, Climate, Peace and Security, data management, programme design, planning, monitoring, or evaluation.
Experience with web-based interactive products and data visualization is required, while programming and advocacy experience involving governments and civil society is also sought. Experience with UN Women or other UN agencies is considered an asset, and knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
The role requires more than technical expertise. UN Women highlights values and competencies including professionalism, accountability, effective communication, creative problem-solving, inclusive collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and awareness and sensitivity regarding gender issues.
Excellent written English is required, while knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
The consultancy provides an opportunity to work on an increasingly important area: the relationship between climate change, gender equality, peace and security, and data-driven decision-making.
Rather than focusing exclusively on traditional research, the role emphasizes turning evidence into accessible digital and visual products that can support policymakers, advocates, peacebuilders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
Professionals with experience in data visualization, digital communications, research, gender programming, peace and security, advocacy, or knowledge management may therefore find the position particularly relevant.
How to Apply
The position was posted on 14 August 2026 and has an application deadline of 21 August 2026 at 5:40 PM, according to the UN Women vacancy information. The role is part-time, home-based, with an initial contract duration of one year.
Applicants should carefully complete all sections of the application form, including education and employment history. UN Women notes that incomplete applications may be disqualified from the recruitment process.
For professionals looking to contribute to international development while working remotely, this consultancy offers a distinctive opportunity to combine research, data, communication, gender equality, climate action, and peace and security in support of UN Women’s regional work.
