Women’s Legal Service Victoria (Women’s Legal) is seeking an experienced Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor – Victorian Portfolio to lead strategic policy, law reform, and advocacy initiatives supporting women and non-binary people affected by family violence, discrimination, and systemic barriers.
This opportunity is based in Melbourne CBD, Australia, and offers a full-time or part-time ongoing position with a flexible hybrid working model.

About the Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor Role
The Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor will lead policy development, law reform activities, and advocacy strategies across Victoria.
The role focuses on issues including:
- Family violence
- Child protection
- Victims’ rights
- Criminal law relating to family and sexual violence
- Gender equality and social justice
- Legal and systemic reform
The successful candidate will work with internal teams, government representatives, community organisations, and sector partners to influence meaningful policy change.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor will:
- Develop and deliver evidence-based policy and advocacy strategies.
- Research and analyse complex legal and policy issues.
- Prepare policy submissions, reform proposals, and advocacy materials.
- Monitor Victorian government, legislative, and political developments.
- Identify emerging policy risks and opportunities.
- Build relationships with government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Represent Women’s Legal in consultations, working groups, and advisory forums.
- Collaborate nationally to support broader advocacy priorities.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Women’s Legal is seeking a strategic and experienced policy professional with a strong commitment to gender equality and social justice.
Applicants should have:
- Experience developing policy, advocacy, or law reform initiatives.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively.
- Experience engaging with government, community organisations, and stakeholders.
- Understanding of government decision-making and law reform processes.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in sensitive environments.
- Commitment to intersectional feminist, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approaches.
Qualifications and Experience
Successful candidates will ideally have:
- A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, social policy, social science, or a related discipline.
- More than 5 years’ experience in policy, advocacy, law reform, legal assistance, family violence, social justice, or public policy roles.
- Experience with advocacy campaigns, government relations, coalition advocacy, or public affairs.
- Experience using client data, lived experience evidence, or service information to influence policy outcomes.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will receive:
- AUD 119,982 – 125,298 per year + superannuation
