Key Responsibilities of the Consultant

The Young Women and Girls Engagement Consultant will work under the guidance of the Deputy Director of the Civil Society Division and will contribute to several strategic priorities.

Key duties include:

• Providing strategic guidance on outreach to adolescent girls and youth constituencies.
• Supporting the implementation of youth-focused programs and initiatives.
• Ensuring effective collaboration across UN Women teams to maximize impact.
• Facilitating consultations, brainstorming sessions, and engagement activities with girl-led organizations.
• Contributing to strategic planning processes and resource mobilization efforts.
• Supporting the development of safeguarding policies for youth and adolescents.
• Strengthening networks and communication channels among youth constituencies.
• Preparing briefing materials, background notes, and technical documentation.

The consultant will also play an important role in helping UN Women integrate adolescent perspectives into organizational strategies and programmatic frameworks.

Advancing Knowledge Management and Learning

Knowledge generation and learning form a significant part of this consultancy. The selected candidate will help document lessons learned, best practices, and successful approaches related to adolescent girls’ engagement in international policy processes.

Responsibilities in this area include:

• Developing knowledge products and case studies.
• Identifying innovative practices and successful engagement models.
• Monitoring youth-focused activities and assessing outcomes.
• Supporting quarterly and donor reporting processes.
• Highlighting achievements and addressing implementation challenges.

Through these efforts, the consultant will contribute to strengthening evidence-based programming and improving future youth engagement initiatives.

Supporting Partnerships and Resource Mobilization

Another major component of the assignment involves strengthening partnerships and supporting fundraising efforts.

The consultant will:

• Compile background information for advocacy and donor engagement activities.
• Analyze potential funding opportunities focused on youth and adolescent programming.
• Maintain databases related to donor engagement.
• Support proposal development and project documentation.
• Contribute to resource mobilization strategies within the Civil Society Division.

This work will help ensure that youth-focused initiatives receive the resources and support necessary for long-term sustainability and impact.

Qualifications and Experience Required

UN Women is seeking candidates with a strong academic background and relevant professional experience in youth engagement and gender equality.

Applicants should possess:

• A master’s degree in social sciences, international relations, communications, women’s studies, or a related field.
• Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree combined with additional qualifying experience may be accepted.
• At least two years of experience in research and civil society engagement focused on young people.
• Knowledge of gender equality and women’s empowerment issues.
• Familiarity with youth-led and girl-led organizations.
• Strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in English.

Additional assets include:

• Knowledge of child protection principles and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
• Experience within the United Nations system.
• Working knowledge of French, Spanish, or another UN official language.
