To strengthen climate adaptation efforts globally, Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is seeking an experienced Network Climate Adaptation Specialist to support an international climate project that empowers informal workers and their organizations.

About the Climate Change Project

Climate change is increasingly affecting workers in informal employment through rising temperatures, extreme weather events, declining incomes, and reduced access to safe public spaces.

To address these challenges, WIEGO is implementing a two-year climate initiative funded by the ClimateWorks Foundation. The project brings together a consortium of global worker networks to strengthen climate adaptation efforts, promote peer learning, and influence urban climate policy.

The Network Climate Adaptation Specialist will play a central role in supporting collaboration among participating organizations while providing technical expertise and strategic guidance.

About the Role

The successful consultant will work closely with WIEGO, partner organizations, and the ClimateWorks Foundation to ensure effective implementation of the project.

This role combines technical climate expertise with partnership management, donor engagement, facilitation, and knowledge sharing.

The consultant will also supervise a part-time Project Assistant and help strengthen climate adaptation initiatives across Africa, Southeast Asia, and other participating regions.

Key Responsibilities

Climate Adaptation and Technical Support

The Network Climate Adaptation Specialist will:

• Provide technical guidance on climate adaptation activities.
• Support participating organizations in strengthening climate resilience.
• Assist partners in implementing project activities.
• Troubleshoot implementation challenges as they arise.

Partnership and Network Coordination

The successful candidate will:

• Facilitate collaboration among international partner organizations.
• Build stronger communities of practice around climate adaptation.
• Promote knowledge sharing and peer learning across the network.
• Represent the network during meetings with donors, partners, and stakeholders.

Monitoring, Reporting and Communications

Responsibilities also include:

• Supporting organizations to document project outcomes.
• Monitoring implementation progress.
• Reviewing and editing donor reports.
• Ensuring reports reflect current climate science and accurately communicate project achievements.
• Participating in Project Steering Committee meetings.

Strategic Engagement

The consultant will also:

• Identify opportunities for policy engagement.
• Build alliances with organizations working on urban climate issues.
• Strengthen advocacy efforts around climate adaptation and informal workers.
• Support strategic influence in international climate discussions.

Required Qualifications

WIEGO is looking for professionals with strong experience in climate-related programmes and international collaboration.

Applicants should have:

• A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in climate change, labour studies, urban development, or a related discipline.
• Experience managing complex projects.
• Experience managing project budgets and reporting.
• Experience working with donors.
• Experience supporting grassroots organizations, membership-based organizations, or social movements.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Strong facilitation and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in remote international teams.
• Availability to work up to 22.5 hours (three days) per week.
• Flexibility to collaborate across multiple time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

Location and Contract Details

This is a remote consultancy with preference for candidates based in:

• Up to 12 days of work per month
• Approximately 22.5 hours per week
• Initial contract through 31 March 2027
• Expected extension subject to funding and satisfactory performance
• Monthly consultancy payments based on agreed professional fees

The successful consultant should have access to reliable internet and appropriate computer equipment for remote work.
