Role Overview

The communications volunteer role is part-time and fully remote, allowing participants to contribute from anywhere in the world. Volunteers will work within the Communications and Campaigns teams and may contribute to various initiatives based on their individual skills, interests, and experience. Key Responsibilities

Volunteers can expect to support ISHR in a variety of tasks. Responsibilities may include:

• Video Editing
  • Produce and edit short videos, statements, and stories of human rights defenders
  • Create visual content tailored for social media and advocacy campaigns
• Content Creation
  • Draft engaging and informative social media posts
  • Assist in writing copy for digital campaigns, including Google Ads
  • Help maintain a consistent tone and style across all communications
• Translation Work
  • Translate social media content, campaign pages, and video subtitles
  • Support multilingual communication to reach global audiences
• Visual Design
  • Develop graphics and campaign visuals using Canva
  • Ensure visually appealing and cohesive messaging across all channels
• Social Media Management
  • Schedule, post, and monitor content on platforms using tools like Hootsuite
  • Assist in building and maintaining active engagement with global audiences

This variety allows volunteers to leverage existing skills while also learning new tools and techniques in digital communication and advocacy.

Skills and Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in human rights, a detail-oriented mindset, and at least one or two of the following skills:

• Excellent writing, copy-editing, and communication abilities
• Knowledge and experience with social media platforms and trends
• Familiarity with digital tools such as:
  • Video editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro)
  • Canva for graphic design
  • Hootsuite or similar scheduling tools
  • WordPress or other content management systems
  • Generative AI tools for content creation
• Digital marketing competencies, including:
  • Google Ads and campaign management
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Google Analytics (GA4) and UTM tracking
• Language skills:
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Additional languages such as Spanish or French are highly advantageous

While volunteers are not expected to have all these skills, demonstrating proficiency in one or more areas will strengthen an application.
