The Volleyball Foundation is inviting applications from experienced professionals for an exciting Project Manager – Global Programmes opportunity. The role is designed for someone with strong project management, monitoring and evaluation, results-based management, and partner-support experience who is passionate about using sport to create positive social impact.

This is a remote, home-based position with international responsibilities and opportunities to work with implementing partners across diverse and resource-constrained settings.

About the Volleyball Foundation

The Volleyball Foundation uses the global reach and power of volleyball to connect, serve and inspire communities while contributing to positive and sustainable social impact.

As the Foundation expands its international project portfolio, it is seeking an experienced and independent Project Manager to support the delivery of programmes and strengthen the capacity of implementing partners.

The successful candidate will help ensure that projects are well planned, effectively implemented, properly monitored and capable of delivering measurable and sustainable results.

About the Role

The Project Manager – Global Programmes will manage and support a portfolio of projects throughout their complete project lifecycle.

The position involves working closely with implementing partners, particularly smaller and locally led organisations, to strengthen project delivery, monitoring, reporting, results-based management and impact measurement.

The successful applicant will need to balance strong project-management standards with practical approaches that reflect local realities and available resources.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project and Portfolio Management

The Project Manager will:

  • Manage projects from development and onboarding through implementation, monitoring, evaluation and closure.
  • Track project objectives, activities, milestones, budgets, risks and reporting requirements.
  • Identify implementation challenges and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Support project modifications and improvements where necessary.
  • Contribute to the assessment, design and development of new project proposals.

2. Results-Based Management, MEL and Impact

Responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining practical Results-Based Management approaches.
  • Supporting partners to develop results frameworks, indicators, baselines and targets.
  • Monitoring and analysing quantitative and qualitative performance.
  • Supporting baseline, midline and endline monitoring and evaluation.
  • Contributing to portfolio-level impact assessment.
  • Supporting the progressive use of Social Return on Investment and other social-value methodologies.
  • Ensuring that evidence and lessons learned inform future programme design.

3. Implementing Partner Support

The successful candidate will provide practical guidance and coaching to project managers and implementing organisations.

This may include:

  • Identifying project-management and reporting capacity gaps.
  • Delivering training on project planning, KPIs, monitoring, risk management and reporting.
  • Helping partners strengthen their monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Developing practical tools and guidance.
  • Supporting smaller organisations to manage programmes more independently.
  • Strengthening local ownership and sustainable programme delivery.

4. Reporting and Quality Management

The Project Manager will also:

  • Establish proportionate reporting requirements.
  • Review partner reports against agreed objectives, milestones, KPIs and budgets.
  • Follow up on missing information and supporting evidence.
  • Consolidate project information into portfolio-level reports and dashboards.
  • Identify common challenges, lessons and good practices.
  • Translate findings into practical improvements.

5. Project Visits and Field Support

International travel will form part of the position.

The successful candidate may be expected to:

  • Visit projects and implementing partners internationally.
  • Assess project progress, risks and results.
  • Review monitoring and evaluation approaches.
  • Provide practical project-management support.
  • Conduct capacity-building activities.
  • Document findings and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as:

  • International development
  • Social impact
  • Community development
  • Programme management
  • Project management
  • Monitoring, evaluation and learning

Candidates should also demonstrate experience managing multiple projects or portfolios, including programmes involving grassroots organisations or locally led implementing partners.

Experience with Results-Based Management (RBM) and monitoring and evaluation is particularly important.

Applicants should be comfortable working with:

  • Results frameworks

  • Outputs and outcomes

  • Partner capacity building

Excellent written and spoken English is required.

Candidates must also be available to work at least four hours per day between 09:00 and 17:00 CET/CEST.

Experience using AI tools professionally and a commitment to continuous learning are also expected.

Desirable Skills and Experience

The following would strengthen an application:

  • Experience in sport for development or sport for good.
  • Experience working for an international nonprofit or foundation.
  • Knowledge of Theory of Change.
  • Experience with SROI or social-value measurement.
  • Knowledge of SDG-aligned monitoring.
  • A project-management, MEL or impact-measurement qualification.
  • Additional language skills.
  • Experience with volleyball or other sports.

A genuine interest in volleyball and an understanding of how sport can contribute to community and social development would be an advantage.

International travel will also be required as part of the position.
