About the UNOPS Project Manager Position
The position is being offered by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) through its Global Portfolios Office. The successful candidate will work on projects designed to help governments strengthen the planning, management and sustainability of public infrastructure.
The initial assignment is linked to a project led by UN DESA’s Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO). The initiative will support national and local governments in Kenya, The Gambia, Uganda, Zambia, Senegal and the Federated States of Micronesia.
The project focuses on improving infrastructure governance and helping governments ensure that public infrastructure is reliable, inclusive and climate-resilient.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager will be responsible for managing projects from initiation through closure, ensuring that activities are delivered within agreed time, cost, scope, quality and risk parameters.
Key duties include:
- Developing and updating project implementation plans.
- Managing project milestones, outputs and deliverables.
- Monitoring project progress, budgets, risks and quality.
- Coordinating suppliers, partners and other stakeholders.
- Preparing project and financial reports.
- Developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Managing stakeholder engagement and communication.
- Supporting quality assurance and audit activities.
- Providing technical assistance, training and capacity building.
- Promoting knowledge sharing and documenting lessons learned.
- Managing and supporting project teams.
- Ensuring sustainability, gender, social inclusion and environmental considerations are incorporated throughout the project.
The role also requires close collaboration with donors, governments, implementing partners, beneficiaries and project boards.
Who Can Apply?
UNOPS is looking for an experienced project management professional with a strong background in infrastructure asset management and complex multi-country projects.
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
Option 1: An advanced university degree, preferably in engineering, architecture, public administration or international relations, together with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
Option 2: A first-level university degree in a relevant field together with at least seven years of relevant professional experience.
A globally recognized project management certification is desirable, as is professional certification related to the technical area of the position.
Required Professional Experience
Candidates should have experience implementing complex, multi-country infrastructure asset management projects, particularly those involving governments, donors and development partners in developing countries.
Relevant experience includes:
- Project planning, implementation and control.
- Project communication and reporting.
- Risk management in multi-stakeholder environments.
- Quality assurance.
- Technical assistance and capacity building.
- Designing and delivering training and workshops.
- Analysing infrastructure data.
- Conducting national or subnational infrastructure assessments.
- Integrating climate resilience and sustainability into infrastructure planning.
- Supporting inclusive infrastructure policies and capacity-building initiatives.
Experience working with governments on national or local infrastructure asset management plans would be an advantage.
Experience in Africa or the Pacific region, development or humanitarian settings, and the UN system is also desirable.
Language Requirements
Fluent English is required for the position.
Knowledge of Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian at a basic level is desirable and could strengthen a candidate’s profile.
Home-Based UN Career Opportunity
