About the UNICEF Consultancy

The consultant will support the Child Protection and Development Data team on work related to early childhood development (ECD) and selected child protection areas.

Key topics include birth registration, violence against children, and children living outside family care.

Working under the supervision of the Senior Adviser, Statistics, Child Protection, Development and Disability, the consultant will help produce and review evidence and data that can support programmes and decision-making.

The role requires someone who can work independently while collaborating with colleagues, governments, partners, and other stakeholders in an international environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful consultant will be involved in several areas of UNICEF’s data and monitoring work.

Responsibilities will include compiling data and preparing draft charts, tables, maps, and other data products for publications and related outputs.

The consultant will also contribute to developing key messages, technical notes, and short written materials based on data and research findings.

Another important responsibility will be fact-checking, proofreading, and reviewing data-driven publications, particularly during the design and layout stages.

The consultant may also support methodological work, including developing, testing, and validating new data collection tools. This may include contributing to statistical classifications and supporting their adoption and use.

Capacity Building and Technical Support

The consultancy will also involve supporting capacity-building activities.

The consultant will help organise and facilitate workshops, training activities, and other initiatives designed to strengthen data-related skills among relevant stakeholders.

In addition, the consultant will provide technical assistance to countries, supporting the implementation of data activities and helping stakeholders use data effectively for programmes and decision-making.

This makes the position suitable for professionals who have both strong technical data skills and the ability to explain complex information clearly to different audiences.

The UNICEF consultancy is intended for an experienced professional with a strong background in data, statistics, monitoring, and research.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Demography, Public Health, or another relevant social sciences field.

Applicants should have experience in project management related to data activities and initiatives, as well as previous experience compiling and analysing data.

Experience preparing data content for publications and designing, testing, and validating data collection instruments is also required.

Knowledge of data related to early childhood development and child protection is important for the position.

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, organisational, and planning skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also expected.

Fluency in English is required. Experience working in international, multicultural, or United Nations environments would be an advantage.
