The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking applications for the position of National Consultant – Project Coordinator to support programme coordination, monitoring, and implementation of a project in South Sudan.

Based in Juba, South Sudan, this consultancy opportunity is designed for experienced professionals with expertise in project management, gender programming, humanitarian response, stakeholder coordination, and supporting survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).

The Project Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring effective project delivery by working closely with UNFPA, government institutions, UN partners, implementing organizations, civil society groups, and survivors’ networks.

Role of the Project Coordinator

The National Consultant – Project Coordinator will provide overall coordination, monitoring, and oversight of project activities.

Reporting to the Gender Specialist at UNFPA, under the supervision of the Deputy Country Director, the consultant will work closely with UNMISS, government partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

The position will ensure that project activities are implemented effectively, resources are managed appropriately, and results align with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will support programme delivery through several key areas:

Project Planning and Coordination

Responsibilities include:

• Leading the development of annual project workplans and budgets.
• Coordinating activities among implementing partners.
• Ensuring alignment between partners and project objectives.
• Supporting requests for proposals and technical review processes.
• Conducting partner capacity assessments.
• Facilitating collaboration between government, UN agencies, donors, and civil society organizations.

Field Implementation and Monitoring

The consultant will:

• Coordinate field activities and ensure smooth implementation.
• Monitor progress and address operational challenges.
• Conduct site visits, stakeholder consultations, and feedback sessions.
• Establish follow-up mechanisms to measure effectiveness and impact.
• Support monitoring missions using gender-sensitive and survivor-centred approaches.

Technical Support and Capacity Building

The role will provide technical assistance by:

• Supporting partners and programme teams working on conflict-related sexual violence response.
• Strengthening capacity of service providers and stakeholders.
• Promoting gender-responsive and rights-based approaches.
• Identifying opportunities for collaboration and survivor empowerment initiatives.

Reporting, Advocacy and Communication

The Project Coordinator will also:

• Prepare project summaries, briefing notes, donor documents, and policy materials.
• Provide inputs into UNFPA, government, and donor reports.
• Support advocacy activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Coordinate communication materials, including speeches, talking points, social media content, and press statements.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Candidates should have strong experience in international development, humanitarian programming, and gender-focused interventions.

Required qualifications include:

• A Master’s degree in social sciences, human rights, gender studies, international development, or a related field with at least five years of relevant experience.

OR

• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience.

Applicants should have:

• At least five years of experience in policy analysis, institutional capacity building, and multi-stakeholder coordination.
• At least two years of experience working on conflict-related sexual violence.
• Experience working in conflict or humanitarian settings.
• Experience coordinating with government agencies and donors.
• Previous UN project management experience is an advantage.
