About UN Women and the EmPower Programme

Grounded in the principles of equality and human rights, UN Women works globally to eliminate discrimination against women and girls and promote gender equality across development, humanitarian action, peace, and security.

In Asia and the Pacific, women face disproportionate climate impacts and systemic barriers to accessing resources and low-carbon technologies. The EmPower Programme, jointly implemented by UN Women and UNEP, addresses these barriers by:

  • Advancing women’s leadership in climate action
  • Enhancing access to low-carbon solutions
  • Promoting gender-responsive climate policies and financing
  • Strengthening advocacy and communication to center women’s voices in climate discourse

To support these goals, the programme seeks a Multimedia Producer capable of transforming complex gender–climate issues into compelling, inclusive, and accessible storytelling products.

Role Overview

The Multimedia Producer will conceptualize, design, and deliver diverse multimedia materials that communicate UN Women’s climate and gender priorities.

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Programme Coordination for Gender and Climate Change and collaborate closely with the Social Media and Programme Visibility Consultant.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for the full production cycle—from concept to final delivery—including the creation of video, animation, and mixed-media content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review background materials, including reports, briefs, and branding guidelines
  • Propose creative concepts and visual treatments tailored to target audiences
  • Develop a distribution and promotion plan with recommended platforms and metrics
  • Produce multimedia content such as:
    • Animations
    • Mixed-media and live-action videos
    • Illustrations and digital storytelling assets
  • Integrate accessibility features:
    • Narration
    • Subtitles
    • Sign-language interpretation
    • UN Women branding
  • Ensure all outputs comply with UN Women’s ethical communication standards and the UN Disability-Inclusive Communication Guidelines

Consultancy Details

  • Type: Retainer contract (services requested as needed)
  • Estimated time commitment: 200 working days throughout the year

  • Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Ability to translate complex gender–climate themes into compelling visual narratives
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work independently
  • Understanding of best practices in social media formats, accessibility, and analytics
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, animation, computer graphics, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in multimedia production
  • Proven ability to develop gender-responsive and inclusive content
  • Experience producing storytelling content related to development, gender equality, climate change, human rights, or humanitarian issues

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required
