Learning & Development Manager at The Humane League(THL)|Salary up to $98k annually

The organization is currently seeking a Learning & Development Manager to lead its global training, performance management, and employee development initiatives. This full-time, remote role offers the opportunity to shape the professional growth of staff and managers while fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
Role Overview
The Learning & Development Manager will design and implement THL’s global learning and development strategy. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking and hands-on expertise in modern learning methodologies. The manager will develop innovative training programs, career pathways, and development plans that enhance employee skills, engagement, and performance.
Additionally, the manager will oversee THL’s global performance management system, supporting managers in providing effective feedback and aligning leadership practices with organizational values. The position reports directly to the Director of People – US and may require occasional domestic and international travel.
This role is open to candidates residing in the USA, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Austria, Portugal, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, or Colombia, who possess work authorization in their country of residence.
Core Responsibilities
Learning & Development Strategy
- Partner with People Leadership to develop and implement a global learning and development strategy.
- Conduct regular training needs assessments and manage a comprehensive training calendar.
- Collaborate with external vendors to source, evaluate, and deliver high-quality training programs.
- Consider implementing and managing a Learning Management System (LMS) for training enrollment, tracking, and reporting.
Performance Management
- Design and manage the organization-wide performance management system, including annual reviews, goal setting, and ongoing feedback.
- Coach managers on delivering consistent, fair performance feedback while complying with local labor laws.
- Drive a culture of high performance by linking outcomes to recognition, compensation, and employee development.
- Continuously improve performance management systems to increase adoption, completion rates, and feedback quality.
Manager Training and Leadership Development
- Create and maintain management development programs for new and aspiring managers.
- Facilitate monthly management meetings to share knowledge and support leadership growth.
- Onboard new managers with structured training, including THL Leadership Academy programs.
- Align leadership practices with THL’s values and organizational goals.
Staff Training
- Design, develop, and deliver engaging learning materials suitable for diverse learning styles.
- Identify training needs throughout the organization and create comprehensive development plans.
- Oversee Individual Development Plans (IDPs), guiding employees and managers through goal setting and skill development.
- Ensure all training content is up-to-date, effective, and uses best-in-class instructional design principles.
Data, Evaluation, and Compliance
- Use metrics and evaluation methods to measure training effectiveness, engagement, and manager consistency.
- Maintain records of learning and development activities and employee progress.
- Ensure compliance training for all staff, including sexual harassment, discrimination, and IT security, is completed and integrated into organizational practices.
- Manage the L&D budget to maximize impact and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
Required Skills and Experience
- Global L&D Experience: Proven success developing and implementing learning strategies, performance management systems, and leadership programs.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across global teams and navigate complex relationships.
- Technology & Data Analysis: Proficiency in HRIS, ATS, LMS platforms, and the ability to analyze data for actionable insights.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to anticipate trends, plan long-term initiatives, and align programs with organizational objectives.
- Problem Solving & Adaptability: Capacity to address complex challenges, implement solutions, and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for training facilitation and presentations.
- Organization & Leadership: Excellent time management, attention to detail, and project management abilities.
- Financial Oversight: Experience managing budgets and allocating resources to meet organizational priorities.
- Global Perspective: Skilled in designing inclusive programs for international teams and stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits
THL offers competitive compensation tailored to each country, for example:
- USA: $80,392 – $98,257
- Canada: $87,876 – $107,071
- UK: £43,754 – £53,477
- Ireland: €53,459 – €65,339
