Terraformation Is Hiring: Senior Monitoring & Evaluation Manager (Remote – US or Europe)

As the climate crisis accelerates, organizations on the front lines of environmental restoration are seeking leaders who can turn data into direction, insights into impact, and evidence into action.
Terraformation—an innovator in large-scale native forest restoration—is searching for a Senior Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Manager to help strengthen the integrity, accountability, and transparency of its global reforestation efforts.
This fully remote role (US or EMEA) offers an opportunity to shape how restoration outcomes are measured, verified, and communicated across a rapidly growing portfolio. With a salary range of $100,000–$120,000 plus equity, this position is ideal for a seasoned M&E professional passionate about climate solutions, biodiversity, livelihoods, and organizational learning.
Why This Role Matters
Terraformation’s mission is grounded in evidence. With projects spanning multiple continents, the organization is committed to restoring biodiverse native forests that sequester significant carbon, regenerate ecosystems, and create lasting economic opportunities for local communities.
Achieving this vision requires rigorous, standardized, and meaningful measurement. The Senior M&E Manager will play a core role in ensuring that Terraformation’s restoration work is not only high impact—but also transparent, data-driven, and scalable.
This position sits at the crossroads of Operations, Project Management, Product (Terraware), and Communications, making it a strategic connector across teams that rely on accurate data to drive decision-making and storytelling.
What You’ll Lead
1. Framework & System Management (25%)
The Senior M&E Manager will refine and oversee a coherent M&E framework that spans Terraformation’s entire project portfolio. This includes:
- Developing consistent indicators, definitions, and templates
- Maintaining and improving M&E tools such as logframes and theories of change
- Integrating key indicators into Terraware, Terraformation’s monitoring and project management technology
This work ensures that M&E isn’t just a reporting function—but a core pillar of adaptive management.
2. Project & Partner Support (50%)
A major part of the role involves directly supporting both internal teams and external partners. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and operationalizing project-level M&E plans
- Setting baselines, defining targets, and aligning workplans with portfolio goals
- Building M&E capacity through training, coaching, and practical guidance
This hands-on support helps ensure that all stakeholders—from field teams to partners—can implement rigorous, meaningful M&E practices.
3. Monitoring, Reporting & Learning (25%)
The Senior M&E Manager will champion evidence-based decision-making across the organization by:
- Guiding data collection, verification, and analysis
- Feeding insights into quarterly reviews and learning cycles
- Working cross-functionally with Finance, Grants, and Communications to ensure M&E data supports reporting and impact storytelling
Strong analysis and communication skills are essential, as the role plays a key part in how Terraformation communicates progress to funders, communities, and the broader climate sector.
Who Terraformation Is Looking For
The ideal candidate brings:
- 10+ years of experience designing and implementing M&E systems for complex, multi-country development or environmental programs
- Deep expertise in results-based management, including theories of change, logframes, and indicator tracking
- Experience developing portfolio-wide M&E frameworks aligned with adaptive management systems
- Strong facilitation and capacity-building skills
- Excellent communication abilities, with a talent for translating technical data into actionable insights
- (Preferred) familiarity with carbon projects, ecosystem restoration, or environmental MRV
This role is best suited for a strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset and a passion for climate impact.
