Key Responsibilities of the Information Technology Officer

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director and IT Manager as part of a small but highly skilled team.

Primary responsibilities include:

IT Operations and User Support

  • Providing technical assistance to staff and course participants.
  • Responding to IT incidents and service requests.
  • Managing user accounts and permissions.
  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, server, and desktop issues.
  • Creating user documentation and training materials.
  • Delivering training sessions on new technologies and systems.

Infrastructure and Systems Management

  • Supporting the management of network infrastructure and servers.
  • Assisting with security systems including firewalls and antivirus solutions.
  • Managing audiovisual and video conferencing technologies.
  • Supporting interpretation, surveillance, telephone, and security systems.
  • Configuring training rooms with the required technology for workshops and lectures.
  • Helping maintain system availability and cybersecurity standards.

Application and Database Support

  • Maintaining and improving the participant database.
  • Supporting internally developed applications.
  • Assisting with front-end systems built with C# and JavaScript.
  • Managing SQL database environments.
  • Contributing to system enhancements and development projects.

Required Qualifications and Experience

The role is ideal for experienced IT professionals who possess both technical expertise and strong problem-solving abilities.

Applicants should have:

  • A university degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional training and experience may also be considered.
  • At least seven years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working in international organizations, educational institutions, or training environments is advantageous.

The JVI is looking for candidates who can adapt to evolving technologies and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Technical Skills Needed

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and practical experience in several technology areas.

Required technical competencies include:

  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Microsoft Exchange.

  • VMware virtualization technologies.
  • Microsoft Office 365.
  • Windows 11 administration and support.
  • Active Directory management.
  • Group Policy administration.
  • Software deployment and desktop security solutions.
  • Network management and troubleshooting.
  • Cloud services and migration projects.
  • Database concepts and operations.
  • C# programming.
  • SQL database development and management.

Additional experience with Moodle and Typo3 platforms is considered an advantage.

An ITIL certification will also strengthen a candidate’s application.
