2027 Tech Policy Press Fellowship Program: Earn a $10,000 Stipend as a Journalist, Researcher or Policy Professional
Applications are now open for the 2027 Tech Policy Press Fellowship Program, a unique international opportunity for journalists, researchers, lawyers, public policy professionals and other experts interested in the intersection of technology, democracy and society.
The 12-month, part-time fellowship offers selected fellows a US$10,000 stipend, editorial guidance, professional networking opportunities and a platform to publish public-interest work. The program is remote and welcomes applicants from around the world, including professionals based in the Global Majority.

About the Tech Policy Press Fellowship
The Tech Policy Press Fellowship is designed for professionals who want to investigate, analyse and communicate important questions surrounding technology and its impact on society.
Since launching in 2023, the fellowship has supported 25 fellows from 11 countries across three cohorts. Previous fellows have examined subjects such as artificial intelligence governance, technology regulation, digital rights, technology policy and the relationship between governments, corporations and society.
For the 2027 cohort, Tech Policy Press is particularly interested in work that contributes to public understanding of emerging technology-policy challenges and brings greater attention to communities and regions that are often underrepresented in global technology debates.
The fellowship begins in January 2027 and runs for one year.
What Does the Fellowship Offer?
Selected fellows will receive a US$10,000 stipend, paid quarterly throughout the fellowship.
Because the program is part-time, fellows can continue with other professional activities where appropriate while undertaking their fellowship responsibilities.
Participants will also become part of an international community of current and former fellows. This provides opportunities to exchange ideas, develop professional relationships and build networks of experts and sources within their areas of interest.

Applicants do not need to be authorised to work in the United States because the fellowship is structured as remote independent-contractor work.
What Will Fellows Be Expected to Do?
Successful fellows will produce analysis or reporting related to technology and democracy at least once each month.
They will also participate in a mandatory monthly cohort meeting and regular check-ins with the Tech Policy Press editorial team.
Fellows are expected to meet agreed deadlines, collaborate with other participants when appropriate and disclose potential conflicts of interest.
The program allows fellows to respond to important developments and news events within their areas of expertise while producing work in different formats.
Application Requirements
Applicants should prepare several key materials before submitting their application.
These include:
- A current CV or resume.
- A cover letter of no more than two pages.
- Links to previous published work.
- Two professional references.
Applicants must provide publicly accessible examples of their previous work. Acceptable examples can include reported articles, policy analyses, essays, opinion pieces, podcasts, newsletters and data projects.
Social media posts, university assignments and unpublished dissertations are not accepted as writing samples.
Applicants should generally submit work published within the past three years, and at least one submitted piece should be written in English.

The fellowship is expected to begin in January 2027, with successful applicants notified around early December 2026.
The selection process is expected to be highly competitive, with only around 8–10 fellowship places available based on the previous year’s intake.
