Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is seeking an experienced Mobile Support Technician Watsan – Operation Cell 4 (LATAM) to support humanitarian operations across Latin America. This exciting home-based position combines remote technical support with extensive field deployments, offering professionals in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector the opportunity to improve public health outcomes in some of the region’s most vulnerable communities.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in strengthening water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene promotion initiatives, vector control programs, and emergency outbreak responses while working alongside multidisciplinary humanitarian teams.

About the Position

The Mobile Support Technician Watsan provides both first- and second-line technical support to MSF operational teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Watsan) interventions.

Although the role is home-based when not deployed, it requires at least 50% field deployment across countries within Operation Cell 4’s Latin American portfolio. The technician will primarily support projects in Colombia, Mexico, and other countries within the operational portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will support MSF operations by:

• Monitoring Watsan activities through regular remote support and field visits.
• Assessing project performance and identifying technical gaps.
• Providing SMART recommendations to improve intervention quality.
• Supporting the planning, design, and implementation of Watsan infrastructure.
• Advising operational teams on effective Water, Sanitation and Hygiene strategies.
• Strengthening community-based and community-led Watsan approaches.
• Training and mentoring Watsan and logistics teams.
• Providing technical assistance during disease outbreaks and humanitarian emergencies.
• Validating suppliers, construction materials, and subcontractors.
• Supporting healthcare facilities and community sanitation initiatives.
• Contributing to continuous improvement through documentation and operational learning.

Supporting Communities Through Sustainable Watsan Solutions

A major focus of this role is promoting sustainable and participatory Watsan approaches that encourage community ownership.

The successful candidate will work closely with communities to develop solutions that reduce disease transmission while improving access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene services.

Beyond project implementation, the technician will help strengthen local capacities by coaching field teams and encouraging long-term, community-driven solutions.

Collaboration Across Humanitarian Teams

The Mobile Support Technician works closely with various MSF departments to ensure integrated humanitarian programming.

The position also involves representing the Watsan department during technical forums and coordination meetings whenever required.
