The Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), a leading global nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health equity, is seeking qualified professionals to join its Ebola Response Consultant roster. This remote, home-based opportunity is designed for experienced public health specialists who can be rapidly deployed to support Ebola outbreak response activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), particularly in Eastern DRC.

Working under the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project, successful consultants will play a critical role in strengthening disease surveillance, outbreak detection, epidemiological investigations, data management systems, and emergency response operations.

PATH is building a roster of national and international consultants who can be deployed on short notice to support Ebola outbreak response operations.

Consultants may be assigned to various outbreak response activities depending on their technical expertise and operational requirements.

Key Areas of Technical Support

Selected consultants may provide expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Public health surveillance and epidemiology
• Ebola outbreak investigation
• Contact tracing and case management
• Community-based surveillance
• Event-based surveillance systems
• Health information systems
• Data management and reporting
• GIS and spatial epidemiology
• Cross-border surveillance
• Surveillance capacity strengthening

Primary Responsibilities

Depending on deployment needs, consultants may support:

Surveillance and Epidemiology

• Strengthening surveillance systems at national and community levels.
• Conducting outbreak investigations and case detection activities.
• Supporting active case finding in health facilities and communities.
• Producing epidemiological reports and risk assessments.
• Monitoring disease transmission patterns and outbreak hotspots.

Contact Tracing and Case Investigation

• Investigating suspected and confirmed Ebola cases.
• Identifying exposure histories and transmission chains.
• Supporting contact identification and daily follow-up activities.
• Monitoring performance indicators for contact tracing programs.
• Training contact tracers and surveillance teams.

Health Information Systems and Data Management

• Supporting DHIS2 implementation and outbreak data systems.
• Managing surveillance databases and reporting platforms.
• Conducting data quality assessments.
• Developing dashboards and automated reporting tools.
• Supporting data governance and security procedures.

GIS and Spatial Epidemiology

• Mapping outbreak locations and transmission hotspots.
• Supporting geolocation of cases and contacts.
• Conducting spatial risk analyses.
• Producing maps for outbreak response operations.
• Training teams on GIS tools and data collection platforms.

Capacity Building and Coordination

• Training frontline health workers and surveillance officers.
• Supporting simulation exercises and preparedness activities.
• Coordinating with government authorities and international partners.
• Participating in outbreak response coordination meetings.
• Documenting lessons learned and best practices.

Required Qualifications

PATH is seeking highly experienced professionals with demonstrated expertise in outbreak response and infectious disease surveillance.

Candidates should possess:

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Health Informatics, GIS, Data Science, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
• Minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
• Previous Ebola outbreak or high-consequence infectious disease emergency experience.
• Strong experience working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
• Expertise in surveillance, epidemiology, contact tracing, GIS, DHIS2, data management, or related technical areas.
• Experience working with governments, NGOs, and international organizations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.

Language Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Fluency in written and spoken French.

Preferred Candidates

Preference will be given to:

• Candidates based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
• Professionals with significant Ebola response experience.
• Experts with strong field deployment backgrounds.
• Individuals familiar with Eastern DRC operational environments.
