About the Governance, Peace and Security Unit
The Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) Unit plays a critical role in promoting women’s participation and leadership in governance and peacebuilding processes.
The unit works across several key areas, including:
- Women, Peace and Security (WPS) initiatives
- Women’s leadership and political participation
- Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
- Gender-responsive security sector reform
- National and Regional Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security
- Climate, Peace and Security programming
- Women, Peace and Cybersecurity initiatives
- Youth engagement and disability inclusion
- Partnerships with governments and civil society organizations
The consultant will contribute to strengthening these initiatives while supporting policy development, program implementation, advocacy, and technical assistance activities.
Key Responsibilities
The selected consultant will provide technical expertise and strategic support related to governance, peace, and security programming.
Responsibilities may include:
Supporting Program Development
The consultant will assist in designing and implementing initiatives that advance women’s leadership and participation in governance and peacebuilding processes.
Policy and Advisory Support
Providing technical guidance to governments, institutions, and civil society organizations on gender-responsive governance and Women, Peace and Security priorities.
Advocacy and Partnership Building
Supporting advocacy efforts and fostering partnerships that strengthen gender equality and inclusive decision-making systems.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Contributing to the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of governance and peacebuilding programs to ensure impact and accountability.
Required Qualifications
UN Women is seeking highly qualified professionals with strong academic and practical experience in governance, peacebuilding, and gender equality.
Education Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- A Master’s degree in Social Sciences
- Gender Studies
- Conflict Studies
- International Affairs
- Peace and Security Studies
- Or another related discipline
Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience may also be considered.
Professional Experience Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
- At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience
- Experience designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating governance and peacebuilding programs
- Strong technical expertise in gender and governance
- Experience supporting governments and civil society organizations
- Knowledge of women’s leadership and decision-making initiatives
- Understanding of emerging issues such as climate change, cybersecurity, and technology governance
Previous experience working with UN agencies or international organizations will be considered a strong advantage.
Preferred Skills and Regional Knowledge
While the consultancy is remote and globally accessible, experience working within the Asia-Pacific region is highly desirable.
