Global child-focused organization Right To Play (RTP) has announced an exciting consultancy opportunity for an experienced professional to support country operations and organisational transition efforts from July to December 2026. The consultancy comes at a critical moment as the organization finalizes a new global strategy and strengthens how country offices and global teams collaborate to deliver impact for children worldwide.
Founded in 2000, Right To Play uses the power of play to protect, educate, and empower children facing adversity. Operating across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, the organization reaches millions of children every year through play-based learning and development programs. RTP’s work focuses on helping children stay in school, heal from trauma, and build the life skills needed to thrive in challenging environments.
As part of a broader transformation process, Right To Play is redesigning its country support systems and operational structures. The new consultancy role will play a major part in helping the organization maintain operational continuity while contributing to the design of a stronger and more effective global-country operating model for 2027 and beyond.
Supporting Country Offices During Transition
The Country Operations and Transition Consultant will work closely with the Vice President of Impact and Quality and the Global Director of Country Operations. Together, they will provide advisory and operational support to country offices experiencing different stages of organizational change.
Some country offices are undergoing planned closure processes, while others are managing leadership transitions or operating in fragile and conflict-affected environments. The consultant will help ensure smooth coordination across global functions such as finance, procurement, People & Culture, and security while supporting operational continuity during these transitions.
This role is designed to be highly collaborative rather than managerial. Instead of directly supervising Country Directors, the consultant will provide guidance, facilitate coordination, and support decision-making processes during a demanding interim period.
Strengthening Onboarding for New Country Directors
One of the key responsibilities of the consultant will be supporting the onboarding of new Country Directors joining Right To Play during the consultancy period.
Effective onboarding is critical in international development organizations where leaders must quickly adapt to systems, relationships, and operational processes across multiple countries and teams. The consultant will help create a structured onboarding experience that enables incoming leaders to connect with global teams, understand internal systems, and navigate operational responsibilities effectively.
Importantly, lessons learned from these onboarding experiences will also be documented to improve future leadership transitions within the organization.
Reviewing the Country-Global Operating Model
A major component of the consultancy involves conducting a detailed review of how global teams and country offices currently work together.
The consultant will examine responsibilities, approval structures, decision-making processes, and accountabilities across the organization. This review will identify operational bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and gaps that may affect program delivery and organizational effectiveness.
The consultancy will also focus on practical process improvements in areas such as procurement, financial approvals, People & Culture systems, partner management, and project design workflows. These recommendations will contribute directly to shaping a more efficient and responsive support structure for country offices starting in 2027.
By gathering perspectives from Country Directors and global functions alike, the review aims to ensure that future systems are grounded in operational realities and informed by the experiences of teams working closest to communities.
Contributing to Strategy Operationalisation
As Right To Play finalizes its new organizational strategy and “North Star,” the consultant will help ensure that country office perspectives remain central to implementation planning.
This includes supporting discussions on how strategy decisions will translate into practical operational systems, governance structures, and decision-making processes at country level. The consultant will contribute recommendations on staffing structures, operating models, and ways of working that strengthen alignment between global leadership and country teams.
The role reflects a growing trend within international NGOs to prioritize locally informed decision-making and adaptive operational systems in increasingly complex humanitarian and development contexts.
Knowledge Management and Internal Communication
Another important focus area will be improving knowledge and information management across the organization.
Country offices often require clear guidance on policies, approval processes, and escalation procedures. The consultant will support efforts to make critical operational information more accessible and improve internal communication systems that keep country teams informed about organizational developments.
In addition, the consultant will support the review of country compliance reports, monthly reports, and quarterly operational updates.
An Opportunity for Experienced NGO Operations Professionals
Right To Play is seeking candidates with significant experience in international NGO operations, particularly in country office support, operational management, and organizational transformation. Experience in crisis or conflict-affected settings, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to work autonomously in fast-paced environments will be essential.
The consultancy requires full-time commitment from July to December 2026 and offers an opportunity to contribute to a major period of organizational evolution within one of the world’s leading child-focused development organizations.
