Position Overview

The International Climate Change Expert will play a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s climate-related research and evaluation agenda. This position involves leading analytical studies, contributing specialized technical knowledge, and supporting capacity-building efforts that enable partners to respond more effectively to the evolving challenges of climate change.

The ideal candidate brings both scientific expertise and practical experience, helping bridge the gap between climate data and actionable strategies for sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Climate Change Evaluations and Research

  • Design and implement evaluations of climate mitigation and adaptation programs.
  • Conduct assessments that measure impact, identify gaps, and highlight opportunities for improved climate resilience.

2. Provide Technical Advisory Support

  • Offer expert guidance on climate policy, environmental risk assessments, and sustainability planning.
  • Advise stakeholders on integrating climate considerations into development strategies, program design, and institutional frameworks.

3. Analyze Data and Produce High-Quality Reporting

  • Assess climate and environmental datasets, interpret trends, and translate scientific findings into actionable insights.
  • Develop comprehensive reports, briefs, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences, from policymakers to field practitioners.

4. Engage Stakeholders Across Sectors

  • Collaborate closely with governments, civil society partners, multilateral agencies, and research institutions.
  • Ensure effective communication, alignment of objectives, and shared ownership of climate-related initiatives.

5. Support Capacity-Building and Knowledge Sharing

  • Contribute to training workshops, learning sessions, and technical guidance materials.
  • Strengthen institutional and community capacity in climate adaptation, mitigation planning, and sustainable development.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree in Climate Science, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Development, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • A PhD is considered a strong asset.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in climate change research, policy analysis, environmental sustainability, or program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Climate risk assessment
    • Adaptation strategies
    • Carbon reduction and mitigation policies
    • Climate finance and funding structures
  • Previous work with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies on climate-related initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of major global climate frameworks, including:
    • Paris Agreement
    • IPCC assessment reports
    • UNFCCC guidelines
    • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Languages

  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Additional languages—particularly French, Arabic, or Spanish—are highly desirable and support STOOS Consulting’s global engagement.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in climate and environmental data tools, such as GIS, R, Python, or specialized climate-impact modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of climate finance mechanisms and sustainable development funding systems.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures and geographic regions.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, particularly in multi-stakeholder environments.
