About the Role

The Social Media Consultant will work on a contract/freelance basis, providing strategic communications support for approximately 10 hours per month.

Rather than managing daily social media operations, the consultant will advise the organization on high-impact communication strategies while helping create engaging content that expands the organization’s reach.

The contract is expected to begin on 29 July 2026, following the proposal review process.

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will help strengthen Columbia Legal Services’ digital presence through a variety of communications activities, including:

  • Developing social media strategies.
  • Creating content plans.
  • Supporting audience growth initiatives.
  • Producing engaging short-form videos.
  • Editing social media videos and reels.
  • Writing and editing captions and calls to action.
  • Advising on SEO and keyword optimization.
  • Monitoring analytics and engagement performance.
  • Recommending improvements for content reach.
  • Supporting advocacy campaigns and event communications.
  • Providing guidance on platform best practices.
  • Advising on accessibility and inclusive communications.

Because the role has a limited monthly scope, the consultant will also help identify the highest-priority communication opportunities that maximize impact.

Expected Deliverables

Each month, the consultant may produce:

  • A review of CLS’s social media presence.
  • Monthly content recommendations.
  • Strategic content ideas.
  • Short-form video edits or production support.
  • Analytics summaries and performance recommendations.
  • Communications advice for campaigns and advocacy initiatives.

The exact deliverables will vary depending on organizational priorities and available hours.

Qualifications

Columbia Legal Services is seeking a consultant with both technical communications expertise and a strong commitment to social justice.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience managing nonprofit or advocacy social media accounts.
  • Strong understanding of social media strategy.
  • Experience producing short-form video content.
