Maliasili is seeking an experienced fundraising and conservation professional to join its team as Senior Manager, Portfolio Funding Support. This full-time opportunity is designed for professionals who can strengthen fundraising systems, support African conservation organizations and help local partners secure more and better funding.

The position is listed as Remote (Africa), offering an opportunity to work with a growing network of locally led conservation organizations across the continent. Applications are due August 21, 2026.

About Maliasili

Maliasili is an organization focused on strengthening locally led conservation in Africa. Rather than directly implementing conservation programmes, the organization works with local and national African conservation organizations to improve their organizational performance, leadership and access to resources.

Its portfolio includes organizations working in wildlife conservation, land restoration and coastal fisheries. Partners are also advancing community and Indigenous land rights, nature-based businesses and ecosystem restoration.

Over more than a decade, Maliasili has developed a portfolio of approximately 55 partners working across more than 64 million hectares in 17 countries. The organization reports that it has helped partners generate or leverage more than $27.3 million in funding.

About the Senior Manager Role

The Senior Manager, Portfolio Funding Support will lead several connected areas of fundraising and collective action.

A major part of the position will involve developing fundraising methodologies, tools and training that help Maliasili’s Portfolio team and partner organizations improve their ability to mobilize resources.

The successful candidate will also work directly with partners, providing advice on difficult fundraising challenges, facilitating workshops and helping organizations develop practical fundraising strategies.

The role further involves supporting donor engagement and contributing to Maliasili’s broader efforts to advance the “better money” agenda for community-led conservation.

  • Develop fundraising methodologies, tools and practical guides.

  • Contribute to fundraising strategies supporting the organization’s $65 million goal.

Cross-Team Coordination – 10%

The Senior Manager will collaborate with Finance and Administration, Strategic Initiatives, Communications, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning teams to ensure fundraising systems connect effectively with wider organizational data and learning systems.

What Does Success Look Like?

Maliasili expects the successful candidate to make a measurable contribution to the fundraising capacity of both its internal teams and partner organizations.

Success will include:

  • Strong fundraising methodologies that are actively used by Portfolio teams.
  • Workshops that lead to new funding opportunities.
  • Partners demonstrating greater fundraising confidence and capacity.
  • Increasing independence in donor engagement.
  • Developing the ability to represent or deputize for the Director on selected matters.
  • Building strong relationships with senior colleagues and partners.
  • Contributing, where appropriate, to peer learning and collective conservation efforts.

Leadership and Career Growth

One particularly notable feature of this opportunity is its leadership development pathway.

Maliasili describes the position as a potential internal pipeline toward a future Deputy Director-level role. However, senior donor responsibilities and deputizing duties will be introduced gradually as the successful candidate demonstrates readiness.

This means the role could be particularly attractive to an experienced fundraising professional who wants to grow into broader strategic leadership.

There may also be opportunities over time to contribute to collective-action activities such as community building, partner engagement, peer learning, workshops and aggregated impact messaging.

Who Should Apply?

The role would suit professionals with experience in fundraising, donor engagement, resource mobilization, organizational strengthening or conservation finance, particularly those who understand the needs of locally led organizations.

Strong candidates should be comfortable working independently, designing practical tools, facilitating training and advising organizations on complex fundraising challenges.

The position also requires someone capable of building trusted relationships with different stakeholders and working across multiple teams.

Remote Opportunity Across Africa

The vacancy is categorized as Remote (Africa), making it particularly relevant to professionals based on the continent who have the required fundraising and conservation experience.

The successful candidate will work with organizations operating across multiple African countries and landscapes, making cross-cultural collaboration and an understanding of locally led conservation especially valuable.

Application Deadline

Interested candidates should submit their applications by August 21, 2026.

This is an opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to combine resource mobilization, conservation, organizational development and African-led impact. With responsibility for strengthening fundraising systems while directly supporting local conservation organizations, the Senior Manager will play an important role in helping Maliasili’s partners access the resources they need to expand their work and protect critical ecosystems.
