ILGA World is seeking a Secretariat Lead for the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC). This is a remote, global position focused on supporting international cooperation on LGBTQI+ and SOGIESC rights within a multilateral framework.
The role is offered on a full-time, fixed-term contract (initially one year, with possible extension) and is open to candidates worldwide.
About the Role
ILGA World hosts the Secretariat of the Equal Rights Coalition, a global partnership of states and civil society actors committed to advancing equality for LGBTQI+ persons.
The Secretariat Lead will manage and coordinate the ERC Secretariat, ensuring continuity, governance support, and effective communication between all stakeholders. This includes member states, international bodies, and civil society organizations.
The Secretariat functions as a neutral administrative body guided by ERC co-chairs and the Executive Committee, while being hosted by ILGA World. Its purpose is to support coordination, institutional processes, and collaboration across the coalition.
Key Responsibilities
The Secretariat Lead will be responsible for managing the operational and strategic functions of the ERC Secretariat, including:
1. Governance and Coordination
- Provide administrative and strategic support to ERC governance bodies
- Ensure smooth communication between member states, civil society, and partners
- Support coordination of ERC working groups and decision-making processes
- Maintain continuity and institutional memory of the coalition
2. Secretariat Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Secretariat
- Ensure alignment with ERC Executive Committee guidance
- Manage internal workflows and reporting processes
- Support planning and implementation of ERC activities
3. Communication and Engagement
- Facilitate communication between stakeholders at global and regional levels
- Draft briefings, reports, and official documentation
- Support transparency and information-sharing across the coalition
- Strengthen engagement with civil society and affiliated organizations
4. Institutional Support
- Strengthen administrative independence of the Secretariat
- Support development of policies and procedures
- Contribute to institutional development and long-term sustainability
- Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and standards
Candidate Profile
This position is open to applicants globally who demonstrate a strong commitment to human rights and LGBTQI+ equality.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in LGBTQI+ rights, SOGIESC advocacy, or broader human rights work
- Strong background in programme or project management
- Experience working with international coalitions, NGOs, or multilateral institutions
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships
- Capacity to work independently in a remote environment

- Salary range: CHF 62,440 – CHF 89,200 per year

Work Environment
The Secretariat Lead reports to the ERC Executive Committee and is supervised by the Executive Director of ILGA World. The role requires balancing independence with accountability, ensuring that the Secretariat remains neutral while effectively supporting member states and civil society partners.
This is a high-responsibility role requiring diplomatic sensitivity, strong coordination skills, and experience working in international policy environments.
