The Sankofa Impact Collective is Seeking a Marketing Manager (Part-Time, Contract, Fully Remote)

Organization: Sankofa Impact Collective
Contract Type: Part-time, Contract
Location: Fully Remote (Global)
Estimated Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week
Compensation: USD 25–30 per hour, dependent on experience
Role Overview
The Marketing Manager is responsible for stewarding Sankofa Impact Collective’s public voice and ensuring that the organization’s brand is communicated clearly, consistently, and with integrity. As an emerging organization, marketing content often serves as the first point of contact for new audiences. This role shapes that initial impression, ensuring it reflects honesty, care, and alignment with Sankofa’s lived community experience.
Rather than prioritizing scale or visibility for its own sake, this role focuses on clarity, trust, and resonance. The Marketing Manager ensures that Sankofa’s public-facing presence accurately reflects the reality of the community being built, rather than an aspirational narrative disconnected from lived experience.
This position acts as a bridge between internal community dynamics and the external story shared with the world. The Marketing Manager oversees social media, email marketing, and campaign execution, translating Sankofa’s mission and values into thoughtful, grounded messaging that helps the right people understand what Sankofa is and whether it is the right space for them.
Why This Role Matters
Marketing stewardship is essential to protecting trust as Sankofa grows. Without intentional oversight, even mission-driven work can become unclear, misrepresented, or overly aspirational. This role ensures that visibility is rooted in truth, coherence, and discernment, supporting sustainable growth and meaningful engagement.
Success in this role is demonstrated through:
- A recognizable and consistent brand voice
- Intentional, steady visibility aligned with organizational capacity
- Marketing that supports partnerships, recruitment, and community growth
- Clear insight into what messaging resonates and why
Core Areas of Responsibility
The Marketing Manager owns how Sankofa shows up publicly across platforms and campaigns, ensuring alignment between mission, values, and execution.
Key focus areas include:
- Brand Voice and Public Representation
- Maintain a clear, consistent, and values-aligned brand voice
- Ensure messaging reflects lived community experience rather than aspirational positioning
- Social Media Management and Content Execution
- Plan, write, publish, and manage content across social media platforms
- Engage thoughtfully with audiences and steward community interactions
- Marketing Campaigns and Email Communication
- Execute email newsletters, announcements, and campaign-based communications
- Support basic marketing funnels that guide audiences from awareness to action
- Visibility, Outreach, and Collaborations
- Support strategic visibility efforts, partnerships, and outreach opportunities
- Exercise discernment around when and how Sankofa should be visible
- Marketing Data Insights and Tracking
- Review engagement metrics, open rates, and campaign performance
- Use data to inform decisions without over-optimizing or prioritizing vanity metrics
Experience and Background
The ideal candidate brings a balance of strategic thinking, strong execution skills, and cultural fluency. This role requires hands-on implementation alongside thoughtful decision-making about brand representation.
The Marketing Manager will typically have:
- 3–6 years of experience in marketing, communications, brand, or content-focused roles
- Demonstrated experience owning marketing execution end-to-end, not solely supporting it
- Hands-on experience managing social media, including content planning, copywriting, posting, and engagement
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate mission, values, and complex ideas clearly and accessibly
- Experience with email marketing, including newsletters and campaign-based sequences
- Comfort using data to inform decisions while maintaining a values-driven approach
- A strong understanding of brand consistency across platforms, with the ability to adapt tone while maintaining coherence
- Experience working with mission-driven, community-centered, or early-stage organizations, where trust and care are central
Approach and Fit
This role is well-suited to someone who prioritizes clarity over hype, alignment over algorithms, and thoughtful growth over constant output. The ideal candidate understands when to amplify, when to pause, and when not to market something at all.
Previous nonprofit experience is not required; however, comfort stewarding a brand where trust, values, and lived experience matter deeply is essential. The Marketing Manager should be comfortable operating with discernment in environments shaped by algorithms, trends, and constant content demands, while maintaining a grounded and intentional approach.
Contract Details and Growth Opportunity
This is a part-time, contract-based role with an estimated commitment of 20 hours per week. The role is fully remote and best suited to someone available for consistent engagement. There is potential for increased hours and growth as Sankofa expands and capacity allows.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates are encouraged to approach the application thoughtfully, prioritizing reflection and intention over speed.
How to Apply
Interested candidates are invited to submit an application addressing the following:
- Motivation for working with Sankofa Impact Collective
- Relevant experience, perspective, or lived context
- Approach to stewarding a brand in early-stage or mission-driven environments
- Perspective on building genuine engagement in algorithm-driven digital spaces
