Position Overview
The Director of Resource Development is a senior leadership role responsible for driving MPDC’s fundraising and resource development strategies. Reporting to the executive team, the director will oversee all aspects of public and external relations, marketing and communications, branding, and event planning. This includes supervision of two key staff members: the Resource Development Manager and the Communication & Marketing Manager.
The director will also ensure that MPDC’s fundraising and grant initiatives are strategically aligned with the organization’s mission and financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Development:
- Strategic Planning: Lead the creation and implementation of MPDC’s resource development strategy, including annual revenue goals, donor engagement plans, and marketing strategies targeting individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Fundraising Activities: Plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising initiatives such as events, major donor cultivation, and stewardship programs.
- Donor Relations: Establish and maintain strong relationships with donors and stakeholders, coordinating and leading meetings with funders and community partners.
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor the Resource Development Manager, ensuring effective performance. Lead the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors and participate in internal staff and committee meetings.
- Grant Management: Oversee the preparation and submission of grant applications, ensuring compliance with deadlines and reporting requirements.
- Data Management: Implement systems for accurate data collection, reporting, and analysis to support fundraising strategy.
Evaluation and Reporting:
- Lead the development of evaluation plans for multi-year grants and contracts.
- Monitor data collection and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Write assessment and key learning reports.
- Research best practices in program evaluation and funder expectations to enhance MPDC’s effectiveness.
Required Skills and Experience
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, resource development, program management, or grant management.
Professional Skills:
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, marketing, communications, and resource development initiatives.
- Knowledge of Greater Boston area philanthropic funders and national community development funders.
- Familiarity with programming for housing, seniors, youth/adult workforce development, health equity, civic engagement, and community violence prevention.
- Skilled in donor engagement, including introducing staff to funders and managing meetings.
- Proficient with data collection tools, evaluation plans, logic models, and dashboards.
- Strong leadership and supervisory abilities with a collaborative management style.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a talent for storytelling.
- Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and capable of independent work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce.
- Ability to work occasionally during evenings and weekends.

- Must pass CORI (criminal background check), reference checks, educational verification, and professional licensure verification.
