About White Coat Waste Project

White Coat Waste Project is a bipartisan nonprofit government watchdog focused on exposing and reducing what it describes as wasteful government spending on animal experimentation.

According to the organization, its work has helped rescue, redeem or spare approximately 29,000 animal lives, cut more than $99 million in wasteful spending, and contribute to the abolition of at least 114 laboratories and experiments.

What Will the Research & Investigations Assistant Do?

The successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of the Research & Investigations Manager.

The role involves processing and managing documents obtained through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other public-records investigations. The assistant will also conduct online research, review government and scientific materials, maintain investigative databases and follow established procedures for organizing research records.

Key responsibilities include:

Document Management

The assistant will process investigative documents using established procedures, including OCR, segmentation, searching, organizing and collecting relevant information and data.

Research & Investigations

The position requires extensive research across government databases, online resources, academic and scientific publications, spending records and other sources.

The successful candidate will also draft, submit and track FOIA and state public-records requests to obtain information supporting WCW investigations.

Database Management

The assistant will enter, organize and maintain information obtained through FOIA and other public-records investigations in WCW databases and tracking systems.

Experience with tools such as Airtable is considered an advantage.

Analysis and Summarization

Another important part of the role is reviewing government records, laboratory documents, scientific publications and spending information.

The assistant will need to identify significant findings and communicate them clearly and concisely to colleagues across the organization.

Who Should Apply?

WCW is looking for candidates with at least one year of professional or internship experience in areas such as research and investigations, journalism, issue advocacy, government or public policy, nonprofit organizations, Capitol Hill or political campaigns.

Salary and Benefits

The position is full-time and work-from-home, with a salary range of $45,000 to $55,000 depending on experience.

The benefits package includes health, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k), paid vacation and paid holidays.
