RepresentWomen Inc. seeks a skilled Researcher to advance the organization’s research agenda through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis. This role is ideal for an individual with strong analytical abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and a demonstrated commitment to improving women’s political representation.

The Researcher contributes to research design, literature reviews, interviews, data collection and analysis, writing, editing, and the development of high-quality research products. The position may also involve mentoring junior research staff, fellows, and interns.

By conducting research and partnering with practitioners, academics, and advocates, RepresentWomen works to advance reforms that strengthen women’s political power and representation in the United States.

Position Summary

The Researcher plays a central role in designing and executing research that aligns with RepresentWomen’s mission. This includes contributing to scholarly and public-facing work on structural reforms such as ranked choice voting and other systemic interventions that influence women’s ability to run, win, serve, and lead. The role requires excellent research skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, partners, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Project Coordination

  • Collaborates with the Research Director on the design, planning, and implementation of research projects.
  • Participates in weekly team meetings to provide updates, review progress, and address challenges.
  • Supports junior researchers, interns, and fellows through guidance, feedback, and quality review of their work.
  • Assists with measurement, evaluation, and tracking of organizational research goals.
  • Uses project management tools—including ClickUp and Google Workspace—to maintain organized workflows and meet deadlines.

Research & Knowledge Development

  • Develops subject-matter expertise in structural reforms affecting women’s political representation, including ranked choice voting and related electoral systems.
  • Conducts data collection, management, analysis, and visualization using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Performs literature reviews, gathers qualitative insights through interviews, and produces high-quality written materials.
  • Authors and co-authors blogs, op-eds, reports, and academic manuscripts that communicate research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Participates in research events, workshops, and seminars to deepen knowledge and share insights.
  • Coordinates with the Communications team to disseminate research products effectively.

Partnership Engagement & Collaboration

  • Cultivates relationships with researchers, academics, policymakers, and partner organizations.
  • Participates in partner meetings, collaborative projects, and research-focused initiatives.
  • Represents the organization at conferences such as the American Political Science Association (APSA), the American Democracy Summit, and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
  • Ensures research outputs support partner engagement and organizational programming, including the Democracy Solutions Summit and Women’s Power Collaborative sessions.

Cross-Departmental Support

  • Responds to internal research requests, including rapid fact-checking and brief data searches.
  • Contributes weekly content for internal communications, such as Weekend Reading.
  • Proofreads communications materials and supports event preparation for RepresentWomen-hosted activities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree, or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant professional experience, in political science, gender studies, public policy, law, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research experience.
  • Demonstrated success completing academic or professional research projects.
  • Strong writing, analysis, and data interpretation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with precision and attention to detail.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Comfort working in a small, evolving organization.
  • Commitment to gender equity and systemic political reform.

Preferred:

  • Experience with academic publishing or journal submissions.
  • Background in gender equality, democracy reform, election science, or political systems.
  • Knowledge of ranked choice voting or proportional RCV.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Infogram.
  • Experience or comfort working in a remote-first team environment.
  • Residence in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia area.

Salary Range: $60,000 – $75,000 per year.
