Position Overview

The Marketing Specialist (Michigan) plays a central role in implementing an approved strategic marketing plan that supports the Midwest Division of The Nature Conservancy, with a dedicated focus on the state of Michigan. This role contributes directly to advancing conservation, policy, and development priorities by translating organizational goals into compelling, audience-centered marketing initiatives.

Working in close collaboration with the Associate Director and cross-functional teams, the Marketing Specialist manages marketing projects from concept to execution. The role integrates global, regional, divisional, and state-level marketing objectives to meet stakeholder needs while proactively managing resources, timelines, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Marketing Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and managing content across a wide range of digital and print channels. Core responsibilities include:

Strategic Marketing & Project Management

  • Implementing tactics aligned with an approved strategic marketing plan
  • Managing marketing initiatives that support Midwest Division and Michigan-specific priorities
  • Coordinating project workflows with internal teams, consultants, vendors, and field offices
  • Monitoring budgets to minimize costs, maximize impact, and meet quality control standards

Content Development & Digital Marketing

  • Creating and managing content for digital and print platforms, including:
    • Social media
    • Email marketing
    • Websites
    • Google and digital advertising
    • Newsletters, annual reports, fact sheets, and other publications
  • Supporting multi-channel digital strategies that increase reach, engagement, and impact
  • Using analytics and reporting tools to track performance, assess outcomes, and inform recommendations

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Working closely with program staff, communications teams, and external partners
  • Ensuring marketing outputs align with conservation messaging and organizational values
  • Supporting senior marketing managers with data-driven insights and strategic recommendations

Ideal Candidate Profile

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a motivated, creative, and highly organized professional who is passionate about conservation and effective storytelling.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Writing, editing, and proofreading
    • Managing multiple projects simultaneously
    • Building and maintaining professional relationships
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and project management capability

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-channel social media, including content calendars, digital strategies, analytics, and paid advertising
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, SEO, SEM, and Google Analytics
  • Creative experience in digital design and short-form social media video production
  • Graphic design skills using tools such as Canva or Adobe InDesign
  • Knowledge of Michigan’s conservation landscape and a passion for communicating environmental impact to diverse audiences
  • Multilingual abilities and multicultural or cross-cultural experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards

Salary and Compensation

The starting salary for this position generally falls within the range of USD 58,000 to 73,000, applicable to candidates employed within the United States.

Final compensation is determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, experience, and qualifications. Candidates based outside the USA will be compensated according to local labor market conditions.
