The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) is seeking a Political Organizer to join its team in Las Vegas, NV. Founded in 1994, PLAN is a coalition of nearly 40 organizations dedicated to advancing social, economic, and environmental justice throughout Nevada. Recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, PLAN focuses on organizing frontline communities and impacted leaders to advocate for policies and investments that improve everyday lives. Its political arm, PLAN Action Fund, operates as a 501(c)(4) organization, translating progressive ideas into action through grassroots campaigns, electoral organizing, and coalition building.

Role Overview: Political Organizer

The Political Organizer will play a central role in PLAN’s community and electoral initiatives. The position is hybrid, requiring significant in-person engagement in Las Vegas, NV, with responsibilities including base-building, issue advocacy, and community mobilization.

Key duties include:

  • Base-Building & Leadership Development:
    • Recruit and train community leaders ready to engage in political and issue-based campaigns.
    • Provide support and resources for volunteers participating in elections, community organizing, and advocacy.
  • Advocacy & Issue Campaigns:
    • Collaborate with the Organizing Team and Campaign Coordinator to execute strategies for key electoral and legislative priorities.
    • Conduct voter education workshops, political education sessions, and leadership development trainings.
  • Community Engagement & Mobilization:
    • Organize and participate in fieldwork, including canvassing, phone banking, petition drives, and community events.
    • Engage with communities disproportionately impacted by inequities, understanding their concerns to recruit them into campaign roles.
  • Communications:
    • Identify and train leaders as spokespersons for issue advocacy.
    • Support social media campaigns, press releases, email communication, and press conferences.
  • Coalition Building & Representation:
    • Collaborate with PLAN member organizations and progressive partners locally and nationally.
    • Attend meetings and networks to advance PLAN’s vision of a fair and just Nevada that prioritizes people and the planet.
  • Team Participation:
    • Maintain organized records and platforms including NGP VAN, Asana, Slack, and Google applications.
    • Attend staff meetings, retreats, and other organizational events to ensure alignment and task completion.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of community organizing experience, communication skills, and a strong commitment to social justice. Key qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in voter contact, community organizing, or advocacy work.
  • Strong understanding of racial equity and social justice issues.
  • Proven experience in volunteer recruitment, training, and leadership development.
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with organizing and technology platforms such as VAN, Mobilize, Asana, Google applications, and Slack.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The Political Organizer position offers a negotiable annual salary of $56,000–$58,000 along with robust benefits:
