The Regional Analyst on Women’s Leadership in Decision-Making in Political and Public Life is a home-based consultancy offered by UN Women. Purpose of the Consultancy
The main purpose of this role is to provide technical support to the Women’s Leadership in Political Decision-Making portfolio within UN Women’s Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean.
The consultant is expected to develop regional tools, technical inputs, and knowledge products that strengthen women’s political leadership and help scale successful initiatives across countries in the region.
Key objectives include:
- Developing a regional model to address violence against women in politics (VAWP)
- Mapping and systematizing successful initiatives on women’s leadership
- Strengthening regional knowledge management on political participation
- Supporting implementation of regional governance and leadership programmes
Key Responsibilities
The consultant will work closely with regional advisors and country offices but will not supervise staff. The role is highly technical and analytical.
Development of Regional Policy Tools
A core responsibility is contributing to the design of a regional mechanism for addressing violence against women in politics.
This includes:
- Drafting technical papers and policy inputs on VAWP
- Identifying international and regional best practices
- Providing recommendations for implementation at national and subnational levels
- Supporting comparative analysis across countries
Knowledge Management and Research
The role places strong emphasis on research, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Key tasks include:
- Mapping successful initiatives on women’s political leadership
- Developing roadmaps for scaling and replicating programs
- Producing technical briefs, reports, and knowledge products
- Supporting communication and dissemination strategies
This ensures that regional programming is evidence-based and aligned with global standards.
Support to Regional Programme Implementation
The consultant also supports ongoing regional programming and coordination efforts.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing internal and external reports
- Providing technical inputs to programme documents
- Participating in regional coordination meetings
- Supporting donor reporting and strategic documentation
Required Profile
UN Women seeks professionals with strong expertise in gender equality, political participation, and policy analysis.
Required qualifications include:
- University degree in social sciences, law, international relations, or related fields
- Experience in women’s political leadership or governance programmes
- Strong understanding of gender equality issues in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Experience producing policy papers, research, or technical documents
- Fluency in Spanish and English
Experience within the UN system is considered an advantage.
Work Modality and Conditions
This is:
- A consultancy contract
- Fully remote (home-based)
- Part-time (9-month duration)
- Supervised by the Regional Office ACRO of UN Women
The consultant is expected to deliver monthly progress reports and participate in regular technical coordination meetings.
