Pitch Perfect Africa 2026: African Health Entrepreneurs Can Win CAD $5,000 Innovation Fellowships

Applications are now open for Pitch Perfect Africa 2026, an exciting opportunity supporting early-stage entrepreneurs developing innovative health solutions across Africa. Organised by the Health Innovation Hub (H2i) at the University of Toronto, the programme gives selected ventures the opportunity to pitch their innovations to expert judges, strengthen their investment readiness and compete for CAD $5,000 Innovation Fellowships.
Three successful ventures will each receive a CAD $5,000 Innovation Fellowship to support the continued development of their work. The competition will select six H2i Level 2 ventures to participate in the pitch event, giving entrepreneurs an opportunity to gain valuable exposure and experience in communicating their ideas to potential partners, investors and other stakeholders.
What Is Pitch Perfect Africa 2026?
Pitch Perfect Africa was created to provide early-stage H2i ventures with access to funding and pitch opportunities. The programme also helps entrepreneurs improve their ability to present their ventures effectively and prepare for future investment opportunities.
Now in its second year, Pitch Perfect Africa has expanded its focus to H2i’s African venture community. The programme was first introduced to this community in 2025 and continues to support entrepreneurs working on health-focused innovations across the continent.
The 2026 competition is designed specifically for eligible H2i Level 2 HENT ventures currently at the Discovery stage of H2i’s four-level venture development model.
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility is an important requirement for Pitch Perfect Africa 2026. Applicants must be:
- A current H2i Level 2 HENT venture.
- Onboarded by their lead mentor by August 31, 2026.
- At the Discovery stage of H2i’s venture development model.
- A venture that has not previously won Pitch Perfect Africa.
Previous finalists who did not win the competition are welcome to apply again.
Entrepreneurs and ventures that are not currently part of the H2i community are encouraged to join the H2i community as client companies. Becoming part of the community can provide access to mentorship, programmes and future opportunities.
What Does the Winner Receive?
The biggest attraction of Pitch Perfect Africa 2026 is the opportunity to receive a CAD $5,000 Innovation Fellowship.
Three ventures will receive the fellowship, which is intended to support the continued development of their health innovation. However, applicants should note that fellowship payments may take approximately three to four months to process following the competition.
Beyond the funding, participating entrepreneurs can gain valuable pitch experience and develop stronger investment-readiness skills. Being able to clearly explain a health innovation, its target problem, market opportunity, solution, milestones and team can be extremely valuable when approaching investors, customers and strategic partners.
Pitch Competition and Key Dates
The application period opened on September 8, 2026, giving eligible ventures several weeks to prepare their submissions.
The application deadline is:
September 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
The main pitch competition will take place virtually on November 16, 2026.
Applicants can also participate in preparation activities designed to strengthen their pitching and market research skills.
The Building a Winning Pitch Masterclass will take place on October 9, 2026, from 8:00–9:00 a.m. ET / 12:00–1:00 p.m. GMT via Zoom. The session will cover key elements of a successful pitch, including defining the problem and solution, understanding the market and competition, presenting milestones and introducing the team.
A separate H2i and University of Toronto Libraries Market Research Workshop is also planned, with the date and details to be announced.
Why Should African Health Entrepreneurs Apply?
Pitch Perfect Africa 2026 offers more than financial support. For early-stage health entrepreneurs, the opportunity to pitch to experienced judges can help strengthen communication skills and improve how a venture presents its value proposition.
Participants can also use the experience to refine their business story, prepare for future pitch opportunities and communicate more effectively with customers, experts, partners, judges and investors.
For entrepreneurs developing solutions to important healthcare challenges in Africa, these skills can play an important role in building sustainable ventures.
