Society for Pediatric Research seeks a Staff Accountant (Remote) |Earn up to $85k

The Society for Pediatric Research, in partnership with the American Pediatric Society and the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS), is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its growing financial operations. These organizations collectively represent a global network of researchers, clinicians, and educators committed to improving child health through scientific discovery and collaboration.

The Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting is one of the largest gatherings in pediatric research, attracting over 8,000 professionals annually. Managing the financial operations of such large-scale events, alongside ongoing nonprofit activities, requires strong accounting systems and reliable financial oversight.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of multiple nonprofit entities. Reporting to the Accounting Manager and Director of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely accounting processes, financial reporting, and compliance.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, can manage multiple responsibilities, and is comfortable working remotely. Occasional travel, typically one to two times per year, may be required.

Key Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting and financial tasks, including:

  • Processing accounts payable transactions and ensuring timely and accurate payments
  • Maintaining and updating the general ledger for multiple entities
  • Conducting reconciliations for bank accounts, investment portfolios, and other financial records
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Assisting with payroll processing, including semi-monthly uploads and validations
  • Recording and tracking revenue from conferences, including registrations, sponsorships, and exhibitor fees
  • Preparing Form 1099s and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations
  • Supporting budget preparation, financial planning, and forecasting processes
  • Initiating ACH payments and wire transfers for reimbursements and stipends
  • Assisting with external audits and providing necessary financial documentation

Additionally, the Staff Accountant will collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights and ensure smooth financial operations across departments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting is an advantage but not mandatory

Required Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage Intacct (preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working in remote or distributed teams

A self-motivated approach and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential for success in this role.
