PBP’s PB Seeds program equips local leaders and advocates with the knowledge, tools, and network needed to advocate effectively for Participatory Budgeting in their communities. Building on the PB Seeds framework, the PB Sprouts curriculum strengthens the advocacy component of the program. Sprouts focuses on preparing leaders to develop campaigns, navigate local government processes, and create coalitions that can successfully implement PB initiatives. The Advocacy Curriculum & Facilitation Specialist plays a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and refining this curriculum.

Role Overview

The Advocacy Curriculum & Facilitation Specialist will support PBP by guiding cohort members through advocacy learning sessions, one-on-one coaching, and curriculum development. Reporting to the New Jersey Advocacy Manager, this specialist will work closely with the Director of Training & Curriculum Design to ensure that PB Sprouts delivers actionable skills and knowledge to participants.

The role is ideal for seasoned advocates with hands-on experience in community organizing and PB initiatives, particularly those interested in civic engagement, education, and policy work.

Key Responsibilities

Session Facilitation (30%)

The specialist will lead interactive, virtual 2-hour thematic group sessions designed to guide cohort members in developing PB advocacy strategies. This includes:

• Planning and facilitating monthly sessions, currently four per cycle
• Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions to provide individualized guidance and support
• Identifying local stakeholders who can assist cohort members in advancing their advocacy goals

By facilitating these sessions, the specialist ensures participants gain practical skills, actionable strategies, and the confidence to drive PB initiatives locally.

Sprouts Curriculum Development (60%)

This role is central to the development and iteration of the PB Sprouts curriculum. Responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with the NJ Advocacy Manager and Director of Training to build comprehensive materials
• Guiding cohort members in focusing advocacy efforts, securing funding, and aligning goals with coalition partners
• Teaching participants to frame their case for PB, write proposals, and integrate PB into existing community organizing work
• Developing facilitation guides, activity materials, and templates that participants can use to implement advocacy campaigns

The specialist ensures the curriculum is both practical and scalable, equipping cohort members to take meaningful action in their communities.

Session Improvement & Iteration (10%)

Continuous improvement of the curriculum is essential. The specialist will:

• Use program evaluation data to identify areas for improvement
• Contribute insights from sessions and coaching to enhance curriculum effectiveness
• Collaborate with the training circle to refine learning materials and session formats
