About the Strategic Communications Advisor Role

This position sits at the center of Oxfam’s external engagement and advocacy efforts. The Strategic Communications Advisor will support the Oxfam in Africa Director by developing and delivering impactful communications strategies that strengthen visibility, influence policy discussions, and elevate Oxfam’s voice on critical issues affecting Africa.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, media specialists, advocacy teams, and partners across the Oxfam confederation to ensure consistent and effective messaging.

Key Responsibilities

The Strategic Communications Advisor will lead and support a range of communication activities designed to maximize the impact of Oxfam’s work and leadership engagement.

Strategic Messaging and Content Development

The role involves crafting compelling communication materials that effectively communicate Oxfam’s priorities, positions, and achievements.

Responsibilities include:

• Drafting speeches and talking points
• Preparing briefing materials
• Developing opinion articles and public statements
• Producing high-quality communication content
• Ensuring message consistency across platforms

Media and Public Engagement

The advisor will manage and strengthen the Director’s media presence and public engagement activities.

Tasks may include:

Advocacy and Influence
