Onja is a social enterprise focused on identifying talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and providing them with training in English language skills and software development.

The organisation discovers promising students in Madagascar who may not have access to further education and equips them with the skills needed to become professional remote software developers.

After completing their training, graduates work with international technology teams, earn sustainable incomes, support their families, and contribute to the development of their communities.

About the Legal Counsel Role

The Legal Counsel will lead efforts to safeguard Onja’s legal interests while supporting the organisation’s growth.

The role requires a legal professional who can provide practical advice, manage risks, and help build strong organisational systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with management and staff to ensure that Onja operates effectively and complies with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Legal Advice and Support

The Legal Counsel will:

• Provide timely legal advice to management and staff.
• Support decision-making on legal matters.
• Advise on employment law issues.
• Assist with dispute resolution matters.
• Provide guidance on legal risks affecting the organisation.

The role requires the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear and practical recommendations.

Ensure Legal Compliance

The successful candidate will support Onja in maintaining compliance by:

• Monitoring applicable laws and regulations.
• Reviewing organisational practices.

Manage Legal Risks

Responsibilities include:
