Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund serves over 5.5 million farmers across nine African countries. The organization provides farm inputs, training, credit, and other services that help farmers increase productivity and resilience. With a team of over 9,000 staff, the organization is working toward an ambitious goal: reaching 10 million farm families annually by 2030. Achieving this growth depends heavily on strong fundraising—and that’s where this role comes in.

About the Role

The Lead Creative, Public Pod is a senior-level position combining technical grant writing, strategic thinking, and leadership. The role focuses on developing high-quality proposals and reports for bilateral and multilateral donors while supporting team leadership and internal coordination.

Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the successful candidate will manage a portfolio of high-value funding deliverables and act as a strategic deputy within the Public Pod team.

Key Responsibilities

This role blends writing expertise with project management and leadership:

  • High-Stakes Technical Writing & Strategy
    • Lead the development of at least two major deliverables per month
    • Translate complex program data into clear, compelling narratives
    • Align proposals with donor priorities while centering farmer perspectives
    • Maintain deep technical knowledge of the organization’s model and impact
  • Project Management & Coordination
    • Oversee the full lifecycle of grant writing projects
    • Coordinate with internal teams such as field operations and finance
    • Ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals and reports
    • Apply tools and frameworks to improve efficiency and quality
  • Leadership Support & Analytics
    • Act as a deputy to the team lead on strategic and operational tasks
    • Manage funding data and maintain accurate tracking systems
    • Mentor and supervise junior team members
    • Support donor engagement and external collaborations

Required Qualifications

The organization is looking for candidates with a strong background in grant writing and international development:

  • 5–7+ years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in grant writing or proposal development
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Experience working with institutional donors (especially European donors preferred)
  • Familiarity with international development or agricultural programs
  • Strong interest in improving livelihoods for smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Fluency in English

Location and Eligibility

The role is open to candidates who are citizens or permanent residents of the following countries:

  • African program countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Burundi, Nigeria
  • European countries: France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium

The job location is flexible within these regions.
