The Clean Air Fund is seeking a Senior Communications Officer, Breathe Cities to support one of the world’s most ambitious urban air quality initiatives. About the Breathe Cities Initiative

Breathe Cities is a global partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies, Clean Air Fund, and C40 Cities focused on supporting cities to improve air quality and create healthier communities.

The Senior Communications Officer will help communicate the impact of this partnership by developing engaging content, managing communications activities, and ensuring that clean air solutions are effectively shared with communities, policymakers, and global audiences.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Communications Officer will support communications delivery across multiple countries and partner organisations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and coordinating communications activities for the Breathe Cities programme.
  • Creating compelling stories that showcase the impact of clean air action.
  • Managing digital communications channels, including websites and social media.
  • Coordinating communications work across city teams, agencies, and partners.
  • Maintaining consistent global messaging and editorial standards.
  • Managing agency relationships and supporting external communications suppliers.
  • Translating complex climate, health, and urban policy topics into accessible content.
  • Planning communications activities and ensuring projects are delivered effectively.

The role requires someone who can manage multiple priorities, build strong relationships, and bring structure to complex international projects.

Who Should Apply?

Clean Air Fund is looking for an experienced communications professional with a strong background in public-interest communications.

Ideal candidates should have experience in:

  • Communications roles within NGOs, philanthropy, government, consultancy, or public-interest organisations.

Salary and Contract Details

The Senior Communications Officer position is offered as a fixed-term contract until June 2029.

Salary varies depending on location:

  • Nairobi: KES 4,500,000 per year
  • Accra: GHS 340,000 per year
  • Johannesburg: ZAR 900,000 per year
  • Addis Ababa: Local equivalent salary to be confirmed
  • London: GBP 47,000 per year
