Senior Fisheries Analyst Position
The Senior Fisheries Analyst – Intelligence & Compliance will provide senior analytical leadership within OceanMind’s I&C team. The successful candidate will work alongside other senior analysts to guide daily activities, support analysts, oversee projects, and ensure high-quality intelligence outputs are delivered on time.
The position combines fisheries intelligence, monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS), remote-sensing technologies, project management, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement.
The role is particularly suited to professionals who have substantial experience in fisheries compliance, environmental law enforcement, maritime intelligence, fisheries management, or related areas.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Fisheries Analyst will have a broad range of responsibilities involving both technical leadership and project management.
Key duties include providing guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise to analysts while ensuring intelligence products are accurate, consistent, and delivered within deadlines.
The successful candidate will also lead daily monitoring and advanced analysis of selected maritime areas and fishing fleets. Qualifications and Experience
OceanMind is looking for candidates with a strong professional background in fisheries intelligence, enforcement, or monitoring, control and surveillance.
Applicants should have a fisheries, enforcement, or intelligence qualification and/or substantial relevant professional experience. Knowledge of commercial fishing operations is important, with practical at-sea experience considered valuable where applicable.
Candidates should also understand fisheries supply chains, fisheries management tools, and compliance challenges.
Strong analytical and numerical skills are essential. Experience working with large datasets and remote-sensing technologies is particularly important. Candidates should ideally have experience using satellite radar, electro-optical imagery, and GIS tools, as well as experience training colleagues in these technologies.
Project management experience is another major requirement. Candidates should be comfortable with planning, risk assessment, prioritisation, budgeting, resourcing, delivery, and reporting.
Strong communication, critical-thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and mentoring skills are also required. The successful candidate should be capable of explaining complex technical information to non-technical audiences and making sound professional judgements when working with incomplete information.
Desirable Skills
Additional experience could strengthen an application. This includes advanced experience with satellite radar, electro-optical imagery, and GIS analysis tools, as well as experience developing relationships with senior consultants, partners, governments, NGOs, and project contributors.
Professional Spanish or French at C1+ level would also be advantageous.
Experience working across different time zones and cultures is useful because OceanMind operates within an international environment.
Benefits and Working Arrangements
The position is described as fully remote, with working arrangements generally within approximately two hours of GMT.
