The position is scheduled to start on December 1, 2026, and applications close on September 30, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so qualified professionals are encouraged to apply early.

Compliance Lead Job Overview
The Compliance Lead will serve as NRGI’s in-house expert on donor compliance and enterprise risk management. The role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with the Finance Director, HR Lead, regional directors, country managers, legal counsel and other colleagues.
NRGI operates across approximately nine legal entities and 20 countries spanning Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. The Compliance Lead will therefore play an important role in ensuring that donor, legal, regulatory and internal requirements are applied consistently across a complex international organisation.
The successful candidate will oversee NRGI’s compliance and enterprise risk frameworks while ensuring that financial controls and donor requirements are properly integrated into operational systems.
Key Responsibilities
The Compliance Lead will own and maintain NRGI’s enterprise risk management framework, including organisational and country-level risk registers, risk assessments, mitigation actions and reporting.
A major responsibility will be donor compliance across grants and contracts. This includes monitoring cost eligibility, reporting requirements, prior approvals, audit readiness, grant close-out and compliance involving partners and sub-grantees.
The successful candidate will also interpret complex funder rules and turn them into practical guidance that programme and country teams can use.
Other responsibilities include developing and implementing organisational policies, procedures and internal controls, working closely with the Finance Director on financial controls.
The role will also maintain NRGI’s anti-fraud, anti-bribery, sanctions screening and whistleblowing procedures, while supporting compliance with relevant data protection requirements.
Procurement and contracting will also fall under the position. The Compliance Lead will ensure that procurement processes are transparent, cost-effective and compliant with funder requirements.
The role will monitor country and regional operations for legal, regulatory and statutory compliance, including registrations and filings.
The successful candidate will also provide training and practical tools to strengthen donor compliance and risk-management capacity across NRGI.
Leadership and Management Responsibilities
The Compliance Lead will coordinate donor audits, internal reviews and compliance assessments and ensure that findings are addressed and lessons are incorporated into future practice.
The position includes direct line management of the Finance and Compliance Manager. The successful candidate will provide direction, establish priorities and support the employee’s professional development.
The role also requires strong cross-functional collaboration with Finance, HR, IT, Legal and Programmes to ensure that operational systems work effectively across the organisation.
Experience and Qualifications
NRGI is looking for a professional with significant experience in donor compliance and enterprise risk management, preferably within an international organisation or international NGO.
Candidates should have strong knowledge of major funder rules, including grant and sub-grant management, as well as experience designing or managing an enterprise risk management framework.
Experience with procurement, contracting, internal controls and audit processes is important. A legal background or legal training is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate should also understand financial controls and grant financial management in a multi-entity and multi-donor environment.
Strong policy-writing and interpretation skills, attention to detail, communication skills and advisory abilities are essential. Experience managing staff is also required.
Professional fluency in English is required, while French or Spanish would be an advantage.
The listing states a Master’s degree is required. Its detailed qualifications section also specifies a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field, with postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA or MSc Finance highly desirable. Equivalent experience and transferable skills may also be considered.
