Newborn Brain Society (NBS) is seeking an experienced Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and oversee the organization’s operations, programs, partnerships, and global community engagement. This is a full-time remote opportunity for a nonprofit leader passionate about improving newborn brain health through collaboration, research, education, and innovation.
About Newborn Brain Society
The Newborn Brain Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that every newborn has access to optimal brain care. The organization brings together clinicians, scientists, researchers, and families worldwide to advance newborn brain health through international collaboration, education, research, and innovative solutions.
NBS currently supports more than 1,500 members globally, hosts international educational programs, and organizes a hybrid global conference focused on improving outcomes for newborns at risk of brain injury.
About the Executive Director Role
The Executive Director will serve as the senior staff leader, working closely with the President and Board of Directors to advance NBS’s strategic priorities.
The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, strengthen partnerships, support membership growth, manage finances, and ensure effective delivery of programs and services.
Key Responsibilities
The Executive Director will:
- Serve as the main staff liaison to the Board of Directors and organizational leadership.
- Support implementation of strategic plans and organizational initiatives.
- Oversee membership growth, engagement, and communications.
- Manage contractors, consultants, and external service providers.
- Support planning and delivery of the annual international hybrid conference.
- Build relationships with members, healthcare professionals, researchers, and partners.
- Oversee budgets, financial reporting, and long-term sustainability planning.
- Develop partnerships with foundations, sponsors, and strategic stakeholders.
- Improve operational systems, policies, and digital tools.
- Maintain organized records, contracts, and administrative processes.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, healthcare administration, communications, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit management, healthcare organizations, scientific societies, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience managing programs, operations, communications, and financial processes.
- Experience working with boards, committees, volunteers, and executive leadership.
- Experience supervising staff, contractors, consultants, or vendors.
- Budget management and financial reporting experience.
- Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Experience
Additional experience in the following areas is an advantage:
- Healthcare associations or medical societies.
- Neonatal medicine, neuroscience, or newborn health.
- Advocacy initiatives and policy engagement.
- Membership growth strategies.
- Strategic partnerships and organizational expansion.
Technical Skills
Candidates should be familiar with:
- CRM or membership database systems.
- Email marketing platforms.
- Website content management systems.
- Google Workspace tools.
- Project management platforms.
- Canva or similar design tools.
