MSF SPARC Safeguarding Implementation Lead: A Global Opportunity to Strengthen Safeguarding(2026)

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is inviting experienced safeguarding professionals to apply for the position of SPARC Safeguarding Implementation Lead, a permanent, full-time opportunity supporting safeguarding implementation across the MSF movement. The role is hybrid and can be based in an MSF office, with the successful candidate generally offered a contract through the MSF office in their country of residence at the time of application. The application deadline is 17 August 2026, with an ASAP starting date.

About the SPARC Safeguarding Role

Safeguarding is a major organizational priority for MSF. The organization is committed to maintaining safe, respectful and dignified environments for patients, caretakers, communities, volunteers and staff. MSF has adopted Behavioural Commitments designed to help ensure that staff understand their responsibilities and contribute to workplaces free from abuse and inappropriate behaviour.

The SPARC Safeguarding Implementation Lead will contribute to a six-year plan designed to strengthen and embed safeguarding consistently across MSF offices and country programmes. The position is therefore focused not only on safeguarding policies, but on turning organizational commitments into practical and sustainable ways of working.

What Will the Successful Candidate Do?

The successful candidate will drive the implementation, operationalisation, monitoring and continuous improvement of MSF’s SPARC safeguarding ambitions and strategic initiatives.

A major part of the role involves translating safeguarding strategies, policies and standards into measurable implementation plans. This includes developing deliverables, milestones, accountability mechanisms and measurable outcomes while monitoring progress across different MSF structures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the implementation of SPARC safeguarding initiatives.
  • Developing implementation plans, tools, frameworks, templates and operational resources.
  • Monitoring safeguarding progress and reporting against objectives.
  • Strengthening safeguarding accountability and organizational ownership.
  • Integrating safeguarding into operational planning, management systems and workforce processes.
  • Producing reports, dashboards, briefing papers and governance updates.
  • Supporting learning, knowledge sharing, reviews and evaluations.

Driving Organizational Culture Change

This position goes beyond technical safeguarding responsibilities. The successful candidate will help make safeguarding a core part of organizational culture and everyday practice.

The role will strengthen leadership engagement and operational ownership while helping integrate safeguarding responsibilities into organizational systems, onboarding, workforce processes and operational planning. It also requires close collaboration with multiple stakeholders across MSF.

This makes the opportunity particularly relevant for professionals who understand how to move organizations from having safeguarding policies on paper to implementing those policies effectively in real operational environments.

Monitoring, Accountability and Learning

Another important component of the position is evidence-based monitoring and continuous improvement. The Safeguarding Implementation Lead will identify risks and implementation gaps, recommend corrective actions and analyse safeguarding trends and lessons learned.

The successful candidate will also prepare high-quality reports, dashboards, presentations and governance updates. They will coordinate safeguarding reviews, consultations and evaluations and ensure that recommendations are followed through.

Strong analytical, reporting and monitoring and evaluation skills will therefore be important for someone seeking to succeed in this role.

Who Should Apply?

MSF is seeking a professional with a strong background in safeguarding and the ability to operate across complex, multicultural and matrixed environments.

Applicants should have either a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as international law or human rights, or a bachelor’s degree combined with significant relevant safeguarding experience. At least three years of experience implementing safeguarding initiatives in operational or country programme contexts is required, while previous MSF experience is considered an asset.

Candidates should also demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and safeguarding risks.
  • The ability to convert strategic plans into practical actions.
  • Strong stakeholder coordination and consensus-building skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication abilities.
  • A strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience leading complex implementation initiatives.
  • The ability to influence organizational change.
  • Strong accountability and implementation management skills.
  • Discretion, diplomacy and sound judgement when handling sensitive safeguarding issues.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Language and Working Environment

English is required for the position, while French is considered an asset. The role is suited to someone comfortable working in a fast-paced humanitarian organization and collaborating with stakeholders across different functions, countries and organizational structures.

MSF also emphasizes inclusion and welcomes applications from people with diverse backgrounds and characteristics. The organization states that accessibility adjustments can be requested during the recruitment process where needed.
