About the Monitoring & Evaluation Manager Role

Reporting to the Senior Director of Monitoring & Evaluation, the Monitoring & Evaluation Manager will play a central role in measuring programme impact, generating evidence, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization’s global portfolio.

This position combines project management, data analysis, technical writing, research coordination, and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will ensure that monitoring and evaluation projects remain organized, data-driven, and aligned with The Max Foundation’s mission to improve global health outcomes.

The role is available remotely, with preference for candidates based in Nairobi (Kenya), Pretoria (South Africa), or elsewhere in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation projects, including work plans, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Support proposal development, technical concept notes, and project budgeting.
  • Manage collaboration with consultants, vendors, technical experts, and internal teams.
  • Coordinate research ethics, conference abstracts, publications, and institutional submissions.
  • Maintain organized project documentation, reporting trackers, and datasets.
  • Develop and strengthen monitoring and evaluation frameworks and performance indicators.
  • Design and support surveys, assessments, evaluation methodologies, and data collection tools.
  • Analyze programme data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improving patient outcomes.
  • Produce high-quality reports, grant proposals, publications, presentations, and evidence briefs.
  • Create dashboards, charts, infographics, and visualizations that communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct literature reviews and background research to support evidence-generation activities.

Who Should Apply?

The Max Foundation is looking for an experienced monitoring and evaluation professional with strong analytical and project management skills.

Ideal candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, International Development, Data Science, Social Sciences, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • At least five years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, programme evaluation, global health, research, or project management.
  • Experience managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, indicators, surveys, and reporting systems.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Familiarity with proposal development, project budgeting, and technical writing.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with knowledge of tools such as SPSS, REDCap, SurveyMonkey, or similar platforms considered an advantage.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with additional languages such as French or Spanish viewed favorably.

Candidates with experience in oncology, health systems strengthening, access to medicines, or programmes focused on low- and middle-income countries will be especially competitive.
