Director of Financial Assistance – Xavier Mission Inc. (Remote, New York, USA) | April 10, 2026

Xavier Mission Inc. is seeking a compassionate and experienced professional to serve as the Director of the Financial Assistance Program (FAP). This full-time remote position requires a candidate who is deeply committed to supporting low-income and vulnerable populations in New York City. The Director will lead the organization’s efforts to provide critical financial assistance, including rental arrears and other forms of aid, to households at risk of eviction or facing financial instability. The role combines program leadership, operational management, and community engagement, ensuring that services align with Xavier Mission’s mission, organizational goals, and funder requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Oversight

The Director will manage all aspects of the Financial Assistance Program, including:

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing program components such as application review, grant disbursement, and follow-up.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies, contracts, and funder guidelines.
  • Establishing performance benchmarks and program outcomes.
  • Evaluating program data to generate reports for funders and inform improvements.
  • Serving as the primary liaison with community partners, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.

Staff Supervision and Development

The Director will provide leadership and mentorship to program staff:

  • Hiring, training, and supervising team members.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and fostering professional growth.
  • Promoting a collaborative, client-centered, and accountable team environment.
  • Overseeing application review processes to ensure timely communication with applicants.

Fiscal Management

Strong financial oversight is a key component of this role:

  • Managing program budgets, financial assistance allocations, and disbursements.
  • Collaborating with the Executive Director to track expenditures and prepare financial reports.
  • Monitoring vendor and landlord payments and resolving issues promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation in Salesforce or other CRM systems.
  • Supporting funding proposal development when needed.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

The Director will serve as a visible and trusted representative of Xavier Mission:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with community organizations, funders, and government partners.
  • Advocating for client needs and participating in policy discussions related to housing affordability and eviction prevention.
  • Representing the organization at funder meetings, coalitions, and public forums.
  • Staying informed about local social services, housing programs, and benefits systems.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience managing nonprofit programs serving low-income or at-risk populations.
  • Strong leadership and staff supervision skills.
  • Fiscal management experience, including budget oversight and fund allocation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM systems preferred.
  • Master’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to build trust and sustain relationships with diverse communities.
  • English fluency required; proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin is a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This is a remote position, with some in-office or on-site presence required in the tri-state area.
  • Frequent computer use and occasional travel to meetings, conferences, or events.
  • Regular communication with staff, donors, clients, and community partners.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods and occasionally move around the office/home office as needed.
