Role Overview

The Global Media & Communications Manager will play a central role in shaping Welthungerhilfe’s global voice. Working at the intersection of strategy and execution, the role contributes to cross-organizational initiatives that define and prioritize topics of global relevance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Communications Strategy:
    • Develop and implement an integrated international communications strategy from concept to delivery.
    • Align communication activities with priority stakeholders and organizational goals.
  • Media Relations:
    • Identify and pitch content opportunities to international and specialist media outlets.
    • Build and maintain relationships with editors and journalists.
    • Draft op-eds, commentaries, and media placements in collaboration with senior leadership and technical experts.
  • Content Creation and Editorial Management:
    • Lead editorial planning for the international website.
    • Produce long-form articles, interviews, and expert explainers tailored to international audiences.
    • Ensure narratives effectively translate complex humanitarian and development expertise.
  • Process and Project Management:
    • Establish and maintain press distribution lists and media monitoring systems.
    • Drive cross-team alignment on priority topics and communication processes.
    • Design and facilitate workshops to improve organizational communication practices.
    • Apply agile methods and responsibly leverage AI tools for research, transcription, analysis, and workflow efficiency.

Candidate Profile

Welthungerhilfe seeks a highly qualified candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s in communications, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional Experience:
    • 5–7 years of experience in international communication, ideally within an INGO, multilateral organization, or comparable environment.
    • Proven experience working with international editors and journalists.
    • Strong content development, research, and writing skills.
    • Project management experience, particularly in cross-organizational or international settings.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strategic thinking with hands-on implementation capability.
    • Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and work collaboratively across teams.
    • Fluent English at a native-speaker level; proficiency in German is a strong asset.
