MCD Global Health is seeking an experienced and service-oriented HR Associate – Benefits Specialist to support its growing, globally engaged workforce.

This fully remote role offers an annual salary range of $54,000–$66,000 (location-dependent) and is open to candidates residing in one of MCD’s registered states: ME, MD, FL, CO, DC, MA, PA, TX, UT, VT.

Position Summary

The HR Associate – Benefits Specialist plays a key role within MCD’s Human Resources team, with primary responsibility for administering and supporting the organization’s U.S. and international benefits programs.

Approximately 70% of this role focuses on benefits management, with additional contributions to recruitment, onboarding, HRIS administration, compliance, and special projects.

The position requires close coordination with the Finance team, particularly the Associate Payroll Manager, to ensure seamless employee support and accurate benefits operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Benefits Administration (70%)

The Specialist manages all components of the U.S. benefits portfolio, including self-insured medical plans, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and other welfare programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting employees with troubleshooting and resolving benefits-related issues
  • Coordinating employee leave, including sick time usage, FMLA, and disability
  • Managing annual open enrollment, including Q&A sessions and communications with brokers and carriers
  • Reviewing and updating benefits data in the HRIS (Paylocity)
  • Reconciling and ensuring timely payment of benefit invoices
  • Supporting the administration of international benefits programs as needed
  • Developing wellness resources and maintaining online HR benefits materials

This role also prepares clear, timely employee communications and ensures that all benefits processes comply with regulatory requirements such as ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and COBRA.

2. Recruitment and Onboarding (15%)

The Specialist manages recruitment activities for assigned roles, including:

  • Posting job openings in the ATS
  • Coordinating advertising and scheduling interviews
  • Conducting reference and background checks
  • Preparing offer letters and initiating onboarding workflows
  • Verifying I-9 documentation and supporting annual compliance trainings
  • Coordinating new hire orientation schedules

3. HRIS and Records Management (10%)

Key tasks include:

  • Maintaining up-to-date electronic employee files
  • Entering new hires and employee status changes into the HRIS
  • Generating compliance and management reports
  • Supporting the development of presentations and internal communications

4. Special Projects (5%)

The Specialist contributes to a variety of organizational initiatives, both independently and collaboratively, and performs additional HR duties as assigned.

Performance Indicators

Success in this role is measured through:

  • Timely recruitment and responsiveness to hiring managers
  • Proper maintenance of HR records following retention guidelines
  • Comprehensive and compliant onboarding/offboarding processes
  • Effective HRIS data integrity and support for system improvements
  • High-quality, accurate benefits administration and cross-training of HR colleagues
  • Positive feedback on HR service delivery

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (Associate degree plus experience may be considered)
  • 3–5 years of benefits administration experience, including open enrollment
  • Proficiency with benefits platforms (e.g., HPI, Cigna, Ascensus), Microsoft Office, and HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of benefits regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA)
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills
  • Strong writing ability; additional language proficiency in French, Portuguese, or Spanish is an asset

Compensation

Salary range: $54,000–$66,000, aligned with Silver Spring, MD salary bands and adjusted by geographic location.
