About the Project

This position is part of the UNOPS Technical Cooperation Project 24330, which aims to strengthen the management of educational infrastructure for traditional communities in Brazil.

The project is implemented in partnership with Brazil’s National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), which oversees educational policies and infrastructure investments across the country.

One of the project’s major objectives is to address the large number of unfinished or abandoned school construction projects serving Indigenous and Quilombola communities. By improving planning, technical assistance, infrastructure management, and project monitoring, the initiative seeks to complete schools and provide quality learning environments for historically underserved populations.

The expected outcome includes the completion of approximately 120 schools, while strengthening the government’s long-term capacity to manage future education infrastructure projects.

About the Role

UNOPS is recruiting two Project Management Support Analysts (School Architecture Specialists) who will support the National Works Specialist and Coordinating Engineer throughout the implementation of the project.

Although the position is home-based, successful candidates must have an appropriate remote working environment, including a reliable internet connection, personal laptop, and the flexibility to attend meetings during business hours. Occasional travel may also be required, with travel costs covered by UNOPS according to organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

The selected professionals will provide technical support throughout the planning, assessment, and implementation phases of school infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include:

• Participating in technical meetings and reporting project progress.
• Supporting the preparation of project requirements and procurement documentation.
• Reviewing and updating infrastructure designs.
• Assessing sanitation, drainage, water supply, and sewage systems.
• Preparing technical reports and engineering assessments.
• Developing architectural and construction guidelines.
• Supporting construction quality control and project supervision.
• Conducting site visits to schools and participating communities.
• Preparing technical presentations, reports, and meeting minutes.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project implementation.

The role combines technical expertise, project coordination, and stakeholder collaboration to help deliver sustainable education infrastructure.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architecture and Urban Planning and be registered with the relevant professional body.

UNOPS also seeks candidates with:

• At least two years of progressively responsible experience in school infrastructure projects.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or similar architectural software.
• Excellent technical analysis and project management skills.

Additional qualifications such as postgraduate studies in Architecture, Sustainability, Green Building, or School Infrastructure are considered an advantage.

Experience working on public sector projects or within the United Nations system or other international organizations will also strengthen an application.

Language Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Native-level Portuguese.
• Intermediate Spanish.
• Basic English is considered desirable.

These language skills will support collaboration across the multinational project team and engagement with stakeholders throughout the region.
