This hybrid, full-time role based in Oakland, California, is essential for building an efficient development infrastructure, managing donor systems, and supporting the CEO in high-level fundraising strategy. Position Overview
The Development Manager ensures that FTP’s fundraising infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently. Reporting to the CEO, this role focuses on systems management, data accuracy, and administrative support across development operations. The Manager acts as a “force multiplier,” handling day-to-day coordination, donor stewardship, and operational efficiency to allow the CEO and executive team to focus on strategy and high-level relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
Development Operations & Systems Management
- Administer Salesforce and maintain 100% data accuracy for donor records, gift processing, and pipeline tracking.
- Track fundraising progress, generating dashboards and reports for the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations with the Finance team to ensure alignment between development records and accounting.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement streamlined workflows to improve productivity.
Grant Management & Writing
- Draft, edit, and oversee grant applications and proposals.
- Collaborate with program teams to meet grant milestones, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
- Manage external grant-writing contractors and ensure all submissions meet organizational standards.
Executive Fundraising Support
- Draft professional email correspondence and funder communications for the CEO.
- Manage bespoke donor touchpoints, including updates, articles, and post-travel insights.
- Prepare briefing materials, research folders, and fundraising assets for meetings and events.
Funder Relations, Research & Stewardship
- Serve as primary administrative contact for funders, responding to inquiries professionally.
- Oversee donor stewardship, including thank-you letters and acknowledgment materials.
- Support fundraising events and digital campaigns, including Giving Tuesday.
- Conduct research on potential funding partners, analyzing alignment, financials, and opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development.
- Advanced proficiency in Salesforce and Google Suite; experience with project management platforms such as Asana preferred.
- Proven ability to manage complex processes, maintain accurate records, and execute strategies independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including successful grant proposal writing.
- Passion for FTP’s mission to reduce excessive prison sentences and restore dignity to impacted communities.
- BA required; MA preferred.
Location & Work Environment
While FTP prefers candidates who can work in the Oakland office at least two days per week, flexible arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. The role emphasizes collaboration, efficiency, and operational excellence, offering a hybrid work environment that balances in-office teamwork with remote execution.
