Purpose of the Regional Safeguarding Manager Role
The Regional Safeguarding Manager will support the Risk Mitigation and Management Team and ensure that safeguarding policies are effectively implemented across Malteser International’s operations in Africa.
The role focuses on strengthening safeguarding practices by:
- Delivering safeguarding training programs
- Supporting country offices in implementing safeguarding measures
- Conducting investigations related to safeguarding incidents
- Raising awareness about safeguarding among staff, partners, and communities

Key Responsibilities
The Regional Safeguarding Manager will carry out a range of activities aimed at strengthening safeguarding systems within Malteser International programs.
Safeguarding Training and Capacity Building
A core responsibility of the role is developing the knowledge and capacity of staff and partners to implement safeguarding practices effectively.
Key activities include:
- Facilitating safeguarding training sessions for staff and partners
- Providing guidance on the implementation of safeguarding policies and regulations
- Supporting partner organizations in improving safeguarding practices
- Promoting community awareness about safeguarding and protection mechanisms

Safeguarding Assessments and Audits

Investigations and Case Management

Required Qualifications
Applicants for this position must have relevant academic qualifications or equivalent professional experience.

Candidates with relevant professional experience in safeguarding or protection may also qualify for the position.
Professional Experience and Skills
Candidates must demonstrate significant experience in safeguarding within the humanitarian sector.
Key requirements include:
- At least five years of experience conducting SEAH investigations in humanitarian settings
- Certification as a SEAH investigator such as IQTS certification from CHS or Humentum, or a similar qualification
- Proven experience designing and delivering safeguarding training programs
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
Candidates must also demonstrate flexibility and the ability to travel frequently, often on short notice.
Language Requirements
The position requires strong communication skills in multiple languages.
Required languages include:
- Fluency in French (spoken and written)
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
These language skills are necessary to support operations and staff across multiple countries in the African region.
Work Location and Contract Details
The position is offered as a full-time role running until 31 December 2026.
The duty station is preferably located in one of the countries where Malteser International operates in Africa. Possible duty locations include:
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
- Other African project countries
- Germany
