About the Role
The Major Gifts Officer will play a key role in expanding philanthropic support for The Share Trust. This position focuses on securing and growing major gifts of $10,000 and above from individual donors, family foundations, and philanthropic partners.
Working within a small but high-performing Development team, the successful candidate will balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys relationship-building, storytelling, donor engagement, and creating innovative fundraising experiences.
As an individual contributor, the Major Gifts Officer will work closely with senior leadership, board members, and development colleagues to advance fundraising goals that support the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Managing Major Donor Relationships
A significant part of the role involves managing a portfolio of approximately 50–75 major donors and prospects, with plans for growth over time.
Responsibilities include:
- Cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals
- Conducting donor meetings and stewardship activities
- Developing personalized donor engagement strategies
- Maintaining accurate donor records in Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Monitoring fundraising performance and pipeline metrics
Building trust-based, long-term relationships will be critical to success in this position.
Leading Proposal Development
The Major Gifts Officer will also lead the creation of compelling fundraising proposals and donor communications.
This includes:
- Writing major gift proposals
- Developing customized funding pitches
- Drafting impact reports and stewardship materials
- Translating complex development and research work into accessible donor narratives
- Collaborating with internal teams to gather information and success stories
Exceptional writing skills are essential, as the role requires producing polished donor-facing content with minimal editing.
Coordinating Fundraising Salons
One of the most distinctive aspects of this position is overseeing The Share Trust’s fundraising salon program.
These intimate donor engagement events are typically hosted in private homes or exclusive venues and are designed to foster meaningful conversations about global development and philanthropy.
The Major Gifts Officer will:
- Coordinate salon logistics and planning
- Work with host donors and volunteers
- Develop guest lists and engagement strategies
- Draft event communications
- Track outcomes and donor conversions

Who Should Apply?

- 5–8 years of progressive fundraising experience
- Proven success securing gifts of $10,000 or more
- Strong proposal and donor communication skills
- Experience managing donor cultivation events
- Comfort engaging with major donors and family foundations
- CRM experience, preferably with Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Excellent organizational and relationship management abilities
Candidates with experience in international development, humanitarian response, global health, or human rights fundraising will be particularly competitive.
