Young climate justice professionals, campaigners, communications specialists, and movement builders have an exciting opportunity to join Magamba Network as a Fired Up Officer. The position is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, or remotely and focuses on coordinating Fired Up, a network of young African climate activists, creators, and creatives working to advance climate justice and energy sovereignty across the continent.

The application deadline is 14 August 2026, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

About the Fired Up Officer Opportunity

Fired Up is hosted by Magamba Network, a creative and digital media organisation working to use creativity, storytelling, and digital platforms to advance social change.

The Fired Up Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership for the initiative, coordinating campaigns, teams, partnerships, advocacy activities, storytelling, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and fundraising.

The successful candidate will help develop innovative campaigns challenging fossil-fuel influence, climate disinformation, sportswashing, and reputation laundering while promoting a just and inclusive renewable-energy transition for Africa.

The role also provides an opportunity to support a new generation of young African climate activists and creators using creative and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

The Fired Up Officer will take responsibility for coordinating the network and ensuring that campaigns are strategically aligned with the initiative’s objectives.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating young African climate justice activists, creators, and creatives.
  • Developing Africa-wide climate and energy campaigns.
  • Creating campaigns challenging fossil-fuel sportswashing and reputation laundering.
  • Raising awareness among young Africans about a just energy transition.
  • Supporting initiatives addressing climate disinformation and information integrity.
  • Incubating and supporting young climate activists and creative campaigners.
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams of activists, creatives, and content creators.

  • Developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks, indicators, targets, and data collection tools.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and final project reports.
  • Supporting fundraising and proposal development.
  • Building relationships with climate advocates, civil society organisations, community groups, independent media, and social movements.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement

A major component of the position involves advocacy and policy influence.

The Fired Up Officer will lead efforts to influence policy at regional, continental, and international levels. This includes developing policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials that promote decentralized and socially owned renewable energy.

The successful candidate will also engage policymakers, coordinate Africa-wide actions and gatherings, and help develop progressive policy demands around climate justice and renewable energy.

This makes the opportunity particularly relevant for candidates with experience in public policy, advocacy, government engagement, campaign strategy, or civil society organising.

Storytelling and Digital Communications

Creativity is central to the Fired Up initiative. The Officer will work closely with the Storytelling team to develop communications strategies that increase awareness and public support for climate campaigns.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating Fired Up’s social media presence.
  • Developing digital content strategies.
  • Supporting media relations.
  • Drafting press releases, interviews, and opinion pieces.
  • Producing multimedia and video content.
  • Developing flagship campaign content.
  • Using digital platforms to mobilise supporters.
  • Developing innovative storytelling approaches for climate advocacy.

Candidates with strong communications, journalism, digital media, creative campaigning, or storytelling backgrounds may therefore find this role particularly attractive.

Candidates should also have at least three years of relevant professional experience in areas such as climate justice, advocacy, strategic communications, creative campaigning, youth movement-building, or programme coordination.

Demonstrated experience developing or coordinating multi-country or Africa-wide campaigns will be particularly valuable, especially campaigns involving young people, activists, creators, or civil society organisations.

Additional Skills That Could Strengthen an Application

These include familiarity with climate disinformation typologies and fact-checking methodologies, as well as experience or interest in Indigenous knowledge systems, decolonial approaches to development, and community-led narrative work.

Candidates should also understand the importance of informed consent and safeguarding when working with Indigenous and frontline communities.

Knowledge of French or Portuguese could be an additional advantage because Fired Up has a network extending across Francophone and Lusophone Africa.
