Mines Advisory Group (MAG), a globally respected humanitarian organisation and co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, is seeking an experienced Global Remote Sensing Manager to join its international team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is a unique opportunity for a remote sensing and geospatial professional to apply cutting-edge Earth Observation (EO) and drone-based technologies to life-saving humanitarian work, supporting mine action, weapons and ammunition management, and post-conflict recovery across multiple countries.

About MAG

MAG is an international humanitarian organisation headquartered in Manchester, UK, with operations in 32 countries worldwide. Its mission is to save lives and build safer futures by:

  • Removing landmines and unexploded ordnance
  • Releasing safe land for agriculture, housing, and community use
  • Reducing armed violence through responsible weapons and ammunition management
  • Supporting governments and communities affected by conflict

MAG’s work directly contributes to peacebuilding, environmental protection, and sustainable development in some of the world’s most fragile contexts.

About the Role

As Global Remote Sensing Manager, you will play a strategic and technical leadership role in advancing MAG’s use of geospatial technologies. Your work will strengthen operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and enhance situational awareness across MAG’s global portfolio of programmes.

You will lead research and development initiatives that expand the practical application of Earth Observation data, GIS, and drone-based solutions within both Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) and Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) contexts.

This role sits at the intersection of innovation, operations, and partnerships, with a strong emphasis on translating advanced data into real-world humanitarian impact.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement innovative methodologies and tools that improve MAG’s operational planning and field effectiveness
  • Lead research and development processes to advance the use of EO data and unmanned aerial systems in humanitarian operations
  • Design and refine operational use cases and standard operating procedures for remote sensing applications
  • Integrate environmental and contextual considerations into geospatial analysis to support sustainable and responsible programming
  • Strengthen partnerships with external stakeholders, including technical institutions, research bodies, and operational partners
  • Contribute to building MAG’s theoretical and empirical knowledge base in remote sensing and humanitarian innovation
  • Communicate complex geospatial data clearly, ensuring insights are actionable for technical and non-technical audiences

Your work will directly inform field operations and strategic decisions, helping MAG deliver safer, faster, and more effective interventions.

About You

MAG is looking for a highly capable and motivated professional with strong technical expertise and a collaborative mindset.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Proven proficiency in remote sensing systems and GIS software, including data processing, analysis, visualization, and machine learning techniques
  • Demonstrated experience leading remote sensing or geospatial projects from concept to operational delivery
  • Experience developing practical tools, workflows, and standard operating procedures for real-world application
  • A degree in a relevant field such as geospatial science, remote sensing, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong project management and report-writing skills
  • Excellent communication abilities, with the capacity to translate complex datasets into clear, decision-ready insights
  • Adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work independently in a remote, international environment

You should also be willing and able to travel internationally (approximately 30% of working time), including to challenging or post-conflict environments.

Location, Travel, and Employment Terms

This is a remote, home-based role, with expected international travel. MAG welcomes applications from candidates based in any country, subject to compliance and budget considerations.

Depending on your country of residence:

  • Employment may be direct or via an Employer of Record
